When a compound is dissolved in hot ethanol during a recrystallization, what is changing on a molecular level? The intermolecula
Feliz [49]

Answer:

The intermolecular forces between the solute and solvent.

Explanation:

When you are heating a solvent, the intermolecular forces are reduced because the distances between molecules are large. Thus, in a solution where solvent is hot the intermolecular forces between solute and solvent are lower than those solutions where solvent is in room temperature.

The covalent bonds do not change because this mean a chemical reaction that doesn't occur in a solution.

Usually solid solutes melts in a higher temperature than boiling point in solvents. Thus, a compound normally doesn't melt in a hot solvent.

I hope it helps!

Which method would be effective for separating salt and water in a mixture?
Tatiana [17]
A seperation method that would be most successful woth the separation of a salt and water mixture would be evaporation for these reasons, (1) There are no magnetic elements involved with salt nor with water, (2) Observing colour differences would not have much affect on separating the two, and (3) Chromatography is used to separate two liquids, such as speparating two dyes, not salt and water.

Evaporation:
The water will evaporate, leaving you with salt as a solid.
