A galvanic cell is powered by the following redox reaction: Br2 H2 2OH Answer the following questions about this cell. If you ne

ed any electrochemical data, be sure you get it from the ALEKS Data tab. Write a balanced equation for the half-reaction that takes place at the cathode. Write a balanced equation for the half-reaction that takes place at the anode. Calculate the cell voltage under standard conditions. Round your answer to decimal places.

Answer:

1.91 V

Explanation:

The correct cell reaction. equation is;

Br2(l) + H2(g) + 2OH-(aq) -> 2Br-(aq) + 2H2O(l)

Anode half reaction;

H2(g) + 2OH^-(aq) --------> 2H2O(l) +2e- -0.82 V

Cathode half reaction;

Br2(l) + 2e- -----> 2Br^-(aq). +1.09 V

Hence

E° cell= E°cathode - E°anode

E° cell= 1.09 - (-0.82)

E° cell= 1.91 V

Calculate the molecular formula of a compound with the empirical formula C5H11 and a molar mass of 142.32 grams/mole
MA_775_DIABLO [31]
Relative formula mass C₅H₁₁ = 71

Now divide the molar mass by the RFM = 142.32 / 71 = 2

Now C₍₅ₓ₂₎H₍₁₁ₓ₂) = C₁₀H₂₂

Hope that helps

What would the molecular formula be if lithium and sulfur reacted to form a neutral compound?
skad [1K]

Answer:

D, Li2S

Explanation:

This is because Lithium, which is in group IA of the periodic table, has a charge of +1. Sulfur will have a charge of -2 because it is in group 6A in the periodic table, which means to balance these out, there needs to be 2 lithium ions which would result in a charge of +2. With Lithium now having a charge of +2 due to having two atoms in the compound, and sulfur already having a charge of -2 as one atom, these two cancel out meaning the compound is neutral.
