Bond length is the distance between the centers of two bonded atoms. On the potential energy curve, the bond length is the inter

nuclear distance between the two atoms when the potential energy of the system reaches its lowest value. Consider that the atomic radius (sometimes called the covalent or bonding atomic radius) of an element is defined as one-half the distance between the bonded atoms in a homonuclear diatomic molecule. Actual bond lengths in molecules are determined experimentally by such methods as X-ray diffraction and microwave spectroscopy. However, these atomic radii values can be used to give an estimate of the upper limit of bond length in other (heteronuclear) molecules. Given that the atomic radii of H and Br are 37.0 pm and 115 pm , respectively, predict the upper limit of the bond length of the HBr molecule.

Answer:

152 pm

Explanation:

According to the question, we can estimate the bond length from the given values of the atomic radii. This now is the upper limit of the bond length for the molecule.

Since we have that;

Atomic radius of H= 37.0 pm

Atomic radius of Br = 115.0 pm

Bond length = Atomic radius of H + Atomic radius of Br

Bond length = 37.0 pm + 115.0 pm

Bond length = 152 pm

Calculate the Molarity (M) of an aqueous solution of HCl which is 35.38% HCl by mass and has a density of 1.161 g/mL.
kozerog [31]

Answer:

11.2 M → [HCl]

Explanation:

Solution density = Solution mass / Solution volume

35.38 % by mass, is the same to say 35.38 g of solute in 100 g of solution.

Let's determine the moles of our solute, HCl

35.38 g . 1 mol/36.45 g = 0.970 moles

Let's replace the data in solution density formula

1.161 g/mL = 100 g / Solution volume

Solution volume = 100 g / 1.161 g/mL → 86.1 mL

Let's convert the volume to L → 86.1 mL . 1L / 1000 mL = 0.0861 L

Molarity (M) → mol/L = 0.970 mol / 0.0861 L → 11.2 M

Select the substance that is thought to be partially responsible for depleting the concentration of ozone in the stratosphere. s
gogolik [260]

Answer:

cfcl3

Explanation:

When the cfcl3 in the atmosphere is hit by UV rays from the sun, it decomposes to Cl atoms. These Cl atoms then react with the ozone producing O2 and ClO. The ClO bombard with O atoms splitting the ClO up and the free Cl atom again bonds to another O3 molecule hence reducing it. One ClO can reduce several O3 molecules (up to 100,000) creating an ozone hole.

2Cl + O3 → 2ClO + 2O2

2ClO + 2O → 2Cl + 2O2
