Tetraphosphorus hexoxide is formed by the reaction of phosphorus with oxygen gas:P4(s) + 3 O2(g)  P4O6(s)If a mixture of 75.3 g

of phosphorus and 38.7 g of oxygen produce 43.3 g of P4O6, what is the percent yieldfor the reaction?

Answer:

The percent yield for the reaction is 48.82%

Explanation:

In order to determine the percentage of reaction yield, it is first necessary to determine which is the limiting reagent. The limiting reagent is that reagent that is consumed first in a chemical reaction, determining the amount of product obtained. The reaction depends on the limiting reagent because the other reagents will not react when one has been consumed.

For determine which is the limiting reagent, you know that:

  • P₄=31 g/mol (1 P) *4= 124 g/mol
  • O₂= 16 g/mol (1 O) *2= 32 g/mol
  • P₄O₆=31 g/mol (1 P) *4 + 16 g/mol (1 O) *6= 220 g/mol

By reaction stoichiometry of the reaction (that is, the relationship between the amount of reagents and products in a chemical reaction),  reacts 1 mole of phosphorus P₄ and 3 moles of oxygen O₂, and produce 1 mol of P₄O₆ then:

  • P₄= 124 g/mol *1 mol= 124 g
  • O₂= 32 g/mol *3 mol= 96 g
  • P₄O₆= 220 g/mol*1 mol= 220 g

The rule of three or is a way of solving problems of proportionality between three known values and an unknown value, establishing a relationship of proportionality between all of them. That is, what is intended with it is to find the fourth term of a proportion knowing the other three. Remember that proportionality is a constant relationship or ratio between different magnitudes.

If the relationship between the magnitudes is direct, that is, when one magnitude increases, so does the other (or when one magnitude decreases, so does the other) , the direct rule of three must be applied. To solve a direct rule of three, the following formula must be followed:

a ⇒ b

c ⇒ x

Then

x=\frac{c*b}{a}

The rule of three will then be applied to calculate the limiting reagent as follows: if 124 g of phosphorus react with 96 g of oxygen by stoichiometry, 75.3 g (data) of phosphorus will react with how many grams of oxygen?

grams of oxygen=\frac{75.3*96}{124}

grams of oxygen= 58.3

But as data, you have only 38.7 grams of oxygen available. This indicates that the oxygen will be the limiting reagent.

Then the calculations will be made from the available 38.7 grams of the limiting reagent.

A rule of three applies: if 96 g of O₂ produce 220 grams of P₄O₆ per stoichiometry, when 38.7 grams of O₂ react how many grams of P₄O₆ will they form?

grams of P_{4} O_{6} =\frac{38.7*220}{96}

grams of P₄O₆= 88.68

So, knowing that percent yield=\frac{actual yield}{theoretical yield} *100 by definition.

The theoretical yield of a reaction is the amount of product that would be formed if the reagents were completely consumed. The actual yield is what you really get from the product, because many times the reagents do not react completely, as in this case, where the P₄O₆ does not react completely. The actual yield of a reaction will always be equal to or less than the theoretical yield.

Then:

  • actual yield: 43.3 g
  • theorical yield: 88.68 g

percent yield=\frac{43.3}{88.68} *100

<u><em>percent yield= 48.82%</em></u>

Finally, <u><em>the percent yield for the reaction is 48.82%</em></u>

6. Draw a velocity-time graph for an object originally traveling at -3 m/s. The object
faltersainse [42]

See the graph in attachment

Explanation:

In this problem we have to draw a velocity-time graph for an object travelling initially at -3 m/s, then slowing down and turning around.

In the graph, we see that the initial velocity at time t = 0 is

v_0 = -3 m/s

and it is negative, so below the x-axis.

Later, the object slows down: this means that the magnitude of its velocity increases, therefore (since the velocity is negative) the curve must go upward, approaching and reaching the x-axis (which corresponds to zero velocity).

After that, the object's velocity keep increasing, but now it is positive: this means that the object is travelling in a direction opposite to the initial direction, so it has turned around.

Two point charges, initially 2.0 cm apart, experience a 1.0 N force. If they are moved to a new separation of 0.25 cm, what is t
den301095 [7]

Explanation:

Th electric force between charges is inversely proportional to the square of distance between them. It means,

F\propto \dfrac{1}{r^2}

Initial distance, r₁ = 2 cm

Final distance, r₂ = 0.25 cm

Initial force, F₁ = 1 N

We need to find the electric force between charges if the new separation of 0.25 cm. So,

\dfrac{F_1}{F_2}=(\dfrac{r_2}{r_1})^2\\\\F_2=\dfrac{F_1r_1^2}{r_2^2}\\\\F_2=\dfrac{1\times 2^2}{(0.25)^2}\\\\F_2=64\ N

So, the new force is 64 N if the separation between charges is 64 N.

What is the force on an electron in a CRT when it’s moving at 2.5 × 105 meters/second perpendicular to a magnetic field of 1.5 t
Firdavs [7]
F = Magnetic Force
B = Magnetic Field
V = Velocity

*The vectors from the photo you get doing the left-hand rule.

The magnetic force is always perpendicular to the magnetic field.

And as told in the statement, the electron is moving perpendicular to a magnetic field, that is, the Velocity forms an 90 degree angle / Right angle with the magnetic field.

The formula to find the Magnetic Force is:

f = |q| \times v \times b \times sin \: \theta

Where "q" is the Charge and the sin theta is the angle formed by the Velocity and Magnetic Field, in this case it's 90°. Sin 90° = 1.

f = |- 1.6 \times {10}^{ - 19} | \times 2.5 \times {10}^{5} \times 1.5 \times 1 \\ f = 6 \times {10}^{ - 19 + 5} \\ f = 6 \times {10}^{ - 14} \: newtons
