Answer : The fractional increase in the volume of the gas is, 1.78

Explanation :

Formula used to calculate the work done by the gas in quasi-static isobaric expansion is:

w=p\times dV

Isobaric means, at constant pressure.

w=p\times (V_f-V_i)

where,

w = work done by the gas = 700 J = 6.909 L.atm    (1 L.atm = 101.32 J)

p = pressure of the gas = 0.40 atm

V_f = final volume = ?

V_i = initial volume = 22.0 L

Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get:

w=p\times (V_f-V_i)

6.909L.atm=0.40atm\times (V_f-22.0)L

V_f=39.3L

Now we have to calculate the fractional increase in the volume of the gas.

Fractional increase in the volume of the gas = \frac{V_f}{V_i}

Fractional increase in the volume of the gas = \frac{39.3L}{22.0L}

Fractional increase in the volume of the gas = 1.78

Thus, the fractional increase in the volume of the gas is, 1.78

How and why do ionic bonds form?
babymother [125]
Ionic bonds are formed when one of the two atoms that are reacting has excess electrons and transfer the electrons to the atom that is deficient in electrons. During the formation of the ionic bond, one of the reacting atoms will donate electrons and form positive ion.

How many molecules of ethane are present in 64.28 liters of ethane gas (C2H6) at STP
Rom4ik [11]

Answer : The molecule of ethane present in 64.28 L of ethane gas at STP is, 17.277\times 10^{23} molecule.

Solution :

At STP,

22.4 L volume of ethane present in 1 mole of ethane gas

64.28 L volume of ethane present in \frac{64.28L}{22.4L}\times 1mole=2.869moles of ethane gas

And, as we know that

1 mole of ethane molecule contains 6.022\times 10^{23} molecules of ethane

2.869 moles of ethane molecule contains 2.869\times 6.022\times 10^{23}=17.277\times 10^{23} molecules of ethane

Therefore, the molecule of ethane present in 64.28 L of ethane gas at STP is, 17.277\times 10^{23} molecule.
