1)extract the interestes part of DNA by cutting it with restriction enzyme
2)cutting with restriction enzyme produces sticky ends
3) cut the plasmids with same restriction enzyme and the let the dna bind to the plasmid
4) seal the product with dna ligase
5) insert the entire thing into a bacteria to allow the DNA to replicate
