A simple harmonic oscillator consists of a 0.96 kg block attached to a spring (k = 220 N/m). The block slides on a horizontal fr

ictionless surface about the equilibrium point x = 0 with a total mechanical energy of 3.0 J. (a) What is the amplitude of the oscillation? (b) How many oscillations does the block complete in 12 s? Enter the integer number of complete cycles. (c) What is the maximum kinetic energy attained by the block? (d) What is the speed of the block at x = 0.12 m?

Answer:

a)  A=0.165m

b) 29

c) K.E_{max}=3.0\ \textup J

d) V=1.713m/s

Explanation:

mass, m =0.96 g

k = 220 N/m

Total energy, E = 3.0 J

Now,

a) E=\frac{1}{2}kA^2

where, A is the amplitude

on substituting the values, we get

3.0=\frac{1}{2}\times 220\times A^2

or

A^2=\frac{3\times2}{220}

or

A^2=0.02727

or

A=0.165m

b) Time period (T) is given as:

T=2\pi\sqrt\frac{m}{k}

on substituting the values,we get

T=2\pi\sqrt\frac{0.96}{220}

or

T=0.415s

thus, number of oscillations (N) in 12s will be

N=\frac{12}{0.415}=28.91\approx29\ \textup{oscillations}

c)Maximum K.E = total mechanical energy

thus,

K.E_{max}=3.0\ \textup J

d)The angular frequency (ω) is given as:

\omega=\sqrt\frac{k}{m}

on substituting the values,we get

\omega=\sqrt\frac{220}{0.96}

or

\omega=15.13 s^{-1}

Now, the speed (V) in SHM is calculated as;

V=\omega\sqrt{A^2-x^2}

for x = 0.12m

we get

V=15.13\times \sqrt{0.165^2-0.12^2}

or

V=1.713m/s

Using the principle of floatation.

u = w............(a)

Upthrust of fluid is equal to the weight of the object.

Let the volume of the wood be V.

The upthrust u, is related to the volume submerged in water, and that is 1/5 of it volume, that is (1/5)V = 0.2V

Formula for upthrust, u = vdg

where v = volume of fluid displaced
d = density of fluid
g = acceleration due to gravity

weight, w = mg
where m = mass
g = acceleration due to gravity

From (a)

                     u = w

                 vdg =  mg      Cancel out g

                   vd  =  m

The v  is equal to 0.2V, which is the submerged volume. Notice that the small letter v is volume of fluid displaced, and capital V is the volume of the solid.

d is density of fluid which is water in this case, 1000 kg/m³

         0.2V * 1000 =  m

           200V =  m

Hence the mass of the object is  200V  kg.

But Density of solid =  Mass of solid / Volume of solid

                                 =    200V / V

                                 =    200 kg/m³

Density of solid = 200 kg/m³

What is the direction of friction if a ball is rolling on the ground?
morpeh [17]
The direction is the same as the direction the ball is moving in. Because of the rolling of the ball, the direction of movement of the surface of the ball is opposite the overall direction of the ball. Since friction will oppose the direction of movement of the surface of the ball, it is in the same direction as the net direction of movement of the ball.

Which of the following statement(s) is
alexgriva [62]

Answer:

Explanation:

A rectifier is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), a process known as rectification. Rectifiers have many uses including as components of power supplies and as amplitude modulation detectors (envelope detectors) of radio signals. Rectifiers are most commonly made using solid state diodes but other type of components can be used when very high voltages or currents are involved. When only a single diode is used to rectify AC (by blocking the negative or positive portion of the waveform), the difference between the term diode and the term rectifier is simply one of usage. The term rectifier describes a diode that is being used to convert AC to DC. Most rectifier circuits contain a number of diodes in a specific arrangement to more efficiently convert AC power to DC power than is possible with only a single diode.
