A heavy-duty stapling gun uses a 0.131-kg metal rod that rams against the staple to eject it. The rod is pushed by a stiff sprin

g called a ram spring (k = 35666 N/m). The mass of this spring may be ignored. Squeezing the handle of the gun first compresses the ram spring by 3.2 ✕ 10-2m from its unstrained length and then releases it. Assuming that the ram spring is oriented vertically and is still compressed by 1.3 ✕ 10-2m when the downward-moving ram hits the staple, find the speed of the ram at the instant of contact.

Answer:

v = 15.3 m/s

Explanation:

Given:

- The mass of the metal rod m = 0.131 kg

- The spring constant of spring k = 35666 N / m

- The initial compression of the spring x_i = 3.2 ✕ 10^-2m

- The final compression of the spring x_f =  1.3 ✕ 10^-2m

Find:

Find the speed of the ram at the instant of contact.

Solution:

- The ram is initially at rest hence its initial velocity is zero. From conservation of energy principle we have and exchange of gravitational potential and elastic potential energy stored in the spring at initial and final state points:

               0.5*m*v^2 + 0.5*k*x_2^2 + m*g*h_f= 0.5*k*x_1^2 + m*g*h_o

               m*v^2 +  k*x_2^2 + 2m*g*h_f = k*x_1^2 + 2*m*g*h_o

               m*v^2 = k*x_1^2 - k*x_2^2 + 2*m*g*(h_o - h_f)

               v^2 = k/m*[x_1^2 - x_2^2] + 2*g*(h_o - h_f)

               v = sqrt {  k/m*[x_1^2 - x_2^2] + 2*g*(h_o - h_f) }

- Where, h_o: is the initial potential energy at compression state x_1.

              h_f : is the initial potential energy at compression state x_2

- Plug in the values:

              v = sqrt {  35666/.131*[0.032^2 - 0.013^2] + 2*g*(0.032 - 0.013) }

              v = sqrt {  232.7819 + 0.37278 } = sqrt {  233.1568 }

              v = 15.3 m/s

Two speakers, one directly behind the other, are each generating a 240-Hz sound wave. What is the smallest separation distance b
AveGali [126]

Answer:

The smallest separation distance between the speakers is 0.71 m.

Explanation:

Given that,

Two speakers, one directly behind the other, are each generating a 240-Hz sound wave, f = 240 Hz

Let the speed of sound is 343 m/s in air. The speed of sound is given by the formula as :

v=f\lambda\\\\\lambda=\dfrac{v}{f}\\\\\lambda=\dfrac{343\ m/s}{240\ Hz}\\\\\lambda=1.42\ m

To produce destructive interference at a listener standing in front of them,

d=\dfrac{\lambda}{2}\\\\d=\dfrac{1.42}{2}\\\\d=0.71\ m

So, the smallest separation distance between the speakers is 0.71 m. Hence, this is the required solution.

A girl coasts down a hill on a sled, reaching level ground at the bottom with a speed of 7.4 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic fri
Amanda [17]

Answer: 62.22 meters

Explanation:

Two solve this, we need to know first how the Sled interact with the snow. While the Sled runs over the snow, the snow opposes to it movement, this is call friction. Frictions creates is a force that goes against any movement and is caused by the interaction between surfaces.

Friction can be calculated using the following equation:

Friction's Force (Ff) = m*N

Where m is the Frictions coficient and N is call Normal, which is a force created by the contact between any weight and a surface. Because the sled is and the surface are totally horizontal, the Normal is equal to the Sled's Weight.

So for this case, we can calculate the Friction's Force:

Ff = 0.045 * 735 N

Ff = 33,07 N

This force will cause a negative acceleration the Sled causing it to slow down and finally stop. To know this accelaration we can use the following equation:

Force (F) = Mass (m) * Accelaration (a)

Looking for the accelaration:

Acceleration (a) = F / M

As a side note:

Mass (M) = F / a                                        (1)

Where we know that F is equal to our Friction Force (Ff) and the Mass for the girl and the Sled can be obtained using the previous equation (1) like this

Girl and sled Mass (M) = 735 N / (9.81 m/s)

M = 74,92 Kg

This is posible, because the Girl and The Sled are aplying a Force on the ground equal to 735 N. The accelartion for their mass is the gravity

Now, with the mass we can found the Accelaration caused by friction:

Acceleration (a) = Ff / M

Accelaration (a) = 33,07 N / 74,92 Kg

a = 0,44 m/s^{2}

To know how far the Sled travel we can use the following equation:

V_{f} ^{2} = V_{0} ^{2} + 2ax

Where Vf is the Final Velocity, which is when the sled finally stops (Vf = 0), Vo is the Initial Speed of the Sled equal to 7.4 m/s and a is equal to the negative accelaration that causes the friction.

(0)^{2} = (7.4 m/s)^{2} + 2(-0,44)x

Searching for x:

x = \frac{0 - (7.4 m/s)^{2} }{-0.88}

x = \frac{0 - (7.4 m/s)^{2} }{-0.88}

x = \frac{0 - (7.4 m/s)^{2} }{-0.88}

x = 62.22 meters

The girls will run over the snow 62.22 meter until finally stopping

DerKrebs [107]

Miniature circuit breakers is called the developed form of fuse because MCBs are more sensitive to current than fuses. They immediately detect any abnormality and switch off the electrical circuit automatically. This prevents any permanent damage to electrical appliances and human beings
