Chemistry

Answer:

Its high polarity

Explanation:

Solvent is the that part of solution which is present in large proportion and have ability to dissolve the solute. In simplest form it is something in which other substance get dissolve. The most widely used solvent is water, other examples are toluene, acetone, ethanol, chloroform etc.

Water is called universal solvent because of high polarity all polar substance are dissolve in it. Hydrogen is less electronegative while oxygen is more electronegative and because of difference in electronegativity hydrogen carry the partial positive charge while oxygen carry partial negative charge.

Water create electrostatic interaction with other polar molecules. The negative end of water attract the positive end of polar molecules and positive end of water attract negative end of polar substance and in this way polar substance get dissolve in it.

Example:

when we stir the sodium chloride into water the cation Na⁺ ions are surrounded by the negative end of water i.e oxygen and anion Cl⁻ is surrounded by the positive end of water i.e hydrogen and in this way all salt is get dissolved.

in a second experiment, the total pressure is observed to be 58 atm. what is the partial pressure of the water vapor produced?
dimulka [17.4K]

This is an incomplete question, here is a complete question.

Nitroglycerine (C₃H₅N₃O₉) explodes with tremendous force due to the numerous gaseous products. The equation for the explosion of Nitroglycerine is:

4C_3H_5N_3O_9(l)\rightarrow 12CO_2(g)+O_2(g)+6N_2(g)+10H_2O(g)

A scientist conducts an experiment to characterize a bomb containing nitroglycerine. She uses a steel, ridge container for the test.

Volume of rigid steel container: 1.00 L

Molar mass of Nitroglycerine: 227 g/mol

Temperature: 300 K

Amount of Nitroglycerine tested: 227 g

Value for ideal gas constant, R: 0.0821 L.atm/mol.K

In a second experiment, the total pressure is observed to be 58 atm. what is the partial pressure of the water vapor produced?

Answer : The partial pressure of the water vapor is, 20.01 atm

Explanation :

First we have to calculate the moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9

\text{Moles of }C_3H_5N_3O_9=\frac{\text{Given mass }C_3H_5N_3O_9}{\text{Molar mass }C_3H_5N_3O_9}=\frac{227g}{227g/mol}=1mol

Now we have to calculate the moles of CO_2,O_2,N_2\text{ and }H_2O

The balanced chemical reaction is:

4C_3H_5N_3O_9(l)\rightarrow 12CO_2(g)+O_2(g)+6N_2(g)+10H_2O(g)

From the balanced chemical reaction we conclude that,

As, 4 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give 12 moles of CO_2

So, 1 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give \frac{12}{4}=3 moles of CO_2

and,

As, 4 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give 1 moles of O_2

So, 1 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give \frac{1}{4}=0.25 moles of O_2

and,

As, 4 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give 6 moles of N_2

So, 1 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give \frac{6}{4}=1.5 moles of N_2

and,

As, 4 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give 10 moles of H_2O

So, 1 moles of C_3H_5N_3O_9 react to give \frac{10}{4}=2.5 moles of H_2O

Now we have to calculate the mole fraction of water.

\text{Mole fraction of }H_2O=\frac{\text{Moles of }H_2O}{\text{Moles of }H_2O+\text{Moles of }CO_2+\text{Moles of }O_2+\text{Moles of }N_2}

\text{Mole fraction of }H_2O=\frac{2.5}{2.5+3+0.25+1.5}=0.345

Now we have to calculate the partial pressure of the water vapor.

According to the Raoult's law,

p_{H_2O}=X_{H_2O}\times p_T

where,

p_{H_2O} = partial pressure of water vapor gas  = ?

p_T = total pressure of gas  = 58 atm

X_{H_2O} = mole fraction of water vapor gas  = 0.345

Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get:

p_{H_2O}=X_{H_2O}\times p_T

p_{H_2O}=0.345\times 58atm=20.01atm

Therefore, the partial pressure of the water vapor is, 20.01 atm

A sample of gas has a volume of 75.0 mL at 30.0 psi. Determine the pressure of the gas if its volume is changed to 15 mL and its
Assoli18 [71]

Answer:

5.995 psi

Explanation:

30 psi = 2.04 atm

75 mL = 0.075 L

15 mL = 0.015 L

0.075 L/ 2.04 atm = 0.015 L/x

0.075x = 0.0306

x = 0.408

0.408 atm = 5.995 psi

What is meant by the ground state of an atom? What is meant by the ground state of an atom? All of the quantum numbers have thei
ANTONII [103]

Answer: Option (a) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

We know that ground state means in total electrons acquired by the element are present in their lowest energy level.

We calculate the azimutal numbers as follows.

                      n = l + 1

where,     n = principle quantum number

                l = azimuthal quantum number

Values of n can be 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. Whereas the values of l can be 0, 1, 2, 3, and so on.

Also, "m" is known as magnetic quantum number whose values can be equal to -l and +l.

So, when n = 1 then l = 0 and m = 0.

When n = 2 then l = 1 and values of m will be equal to -1, 0, +1. As it is given that the magnetic quantum number ml = -1. Hence, it is only possible when n = 2.

And, n = 1 is the lowest energy level. Therefore, we can conclude that the ground state of an atom means all of the quantum numbers have their lowest values (n = 1,ℓ = mℓ = 0).
