Does the temperature of the solvent (water) affect the rate of dissolving?
gregori [183]
Yes. Heating up the solvent gives the molecules more kinetic energy. The more rapid motion means that the solvent molecules collide with the solute with greater frequency and the collisions occur with more force. Both factors increase the rate at which the solute dissolves.

What is the specific heat of titanium in j/(g⋅∘c) if it takes 89.7 j to raise the temperature of a 33.0 g block by 5.20 ∘c?
larisa [96]
Specific heat capacity is the amount of energy required to raise one gram of substances by 1 degree celsius . Therefore specific heat capacity for tatanium is 89.7j /( 33.0g x5.2 degree celsius) = 0.52j/g degree celcius
Molar mass for tatanium is 47.9 g/mole
heat is therefore 47.9 g/mole x 0.52j/g =24.9j/mole

If you start with 10ml of 0.75 m cu(no3)2 how much cu (s) in grams should be recovered in step #7
LenaWriter [7]
0.48 grams. Not a well worded question since it's assuming I know the reactions. But I'll assume that since there's just 1 atom of copper per molecule of Cu(NO3)2, that the reaction will result in 1 atom of copper per molecule of Cu(NO3)2 used. With that in mind, we will have 0.010 l * 0.75 mol/l = 0.0075 moles of copper produced. To convert the amount in moles, multiply by the atomic weight of copper, which is 63.546 g/mol. So 0.0075 mol * 63.546 g/mol = 0.476595 g. Round the results to 2 significant figures, giving 0.48 grams.
