The rate of reaction that can be measured in the dark by determining the amount of oxygen gas consumed in a period of time is the rate of respiration.

Why?

Plants can undergo two types of reactions involving oxygen:

 1. Photosynthesis: In this type of reaction, plants use energy from light to synthesize glucose. The chemical reaction for photosynthesis is: 6H₂O + 6CO₂ → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂, and this reaction produces oxygen gas in the presence of light, that means that to measure the rate of photsynthesis, you'll need to measure the amount of oxgen gas produced in a period of time.
 2. Respiration: In this type of reaction, plants convert the energy stored in the chemical bonds of molecules such as glucose to obtain energy. The chemical reaction for respiration is: C₆H₁₂O + 6O₂ → 6H₂O + 6CO₂, since this reaction consumes oxygen gas in the dark, that means that to measure the rate of respiration, you'll need to measure the amount of oxygen gas consumed in a period of time.

The rate of respiration can be measured in the dark by determining the amount of oxygen gas consumed in a period of time.

Further explanation

Oxygen is consumed by respiring tissue and its loss can be used to measure the aerobic respiration rate. Because we work in a sea of oxygen (air is 20.9% oxygen) it is difficult to measure the small changes in oxygen concentration that occured during respiration.

The rate of respiration can be measured in the dark by determining the amount of oxygen gas consumed in a period of time. The respiratory rate is the rate where breathing occurs. This is usually measured in breaths per minute and is set and controlled by the respiratory centre. A respirometer is a device used to measure the rate of respiration of a living organism by measuring its rate of exchange of oxygen and/or carbon dioxide.

Plant respiration is measured by driving carbon assimilation to zero (typically in the dark) and quantifying the CO_2 and/or O_2 flux. Accurate empirical measurements can be made for most organisms by using sensitive gas exchange techniques. Also the respiration rate can be impacted by environmental variables such as temperature.

Density of the vinegar is higher than the density of the oil.

Explanation:

Density of the vinegar is higher than the density of the oil. The consequence of this is that the oil will be the top layer in the pitcher while the vinegar is at the bottom layer in the pitcher.

When mixing oil and vinegar will not produce a mixture because the oil contains non-polar molecules while vinegar is a solution of acetic acid in water and both of them are polar molecules.

When the temperature of a gas changes, it's volume decreases from 12 cm3 to 7 cm3 if the final temperature is measured to be 18°
ElenaW [278]

Answer:

The initial temperature is 499 K

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

initial volume = 12 cm3 = 12 mL

Final volume = 7 cm3 = 7mL

The final temperature = 18 °C = 291 K

Step 2: Calculate the initial temperature

V1/T1 = V2/T2

⇒with V1 = the initial volume = 0.012 L

⇒with T1 = the initial volume = ?

⇒with V2 = the final volume 0.007 L

⇒with T2 = The final temperature = 291 K

0.012 / T1 = 0.007 / 291

0.012/T1 = 2.4055*10^-5

T1 = 0.012/2.4055*10^-5

T1 = 499 K

The initial temperature is 499 K
