Air is about 78.0% nitrogen molecules and 21.0% oxygen molecules. Several other gases make up the remaining 1% of air molecules.

Answer:

The partial pressure of the other gases is 0.009 atm

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Air is about 78.0% nitrogen molecules and 21.0% oxygen molecules and 1% of other gases.

The atmospheric pressure = 0.90 atm

Step 2: Calculate mol fraction

If wehave 100 moles of air, 78 moles will be nitrogen,

21 moles will be oxygen, and 1 mol will be other gases.

Mol fraction = 1/100 = 0.01

Step 3: Calculate the partial pressure of the other gases

Pgas = Xgas * Ptotal

⇒ Pgas = the partial pressure = ?

⇒ Xgas = the mol fraction of the gas = 0.01

⇒Ptotal = the total pressure of the pressure = 0.90 atm

Pgas = 0.01 * 0.90 atm

Pgas = 0.009 atm

The partial pressure of the other gases is 0.009 atm

Which statement does NOT apply to Alkenes?
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

They are more stable than alkanes

Explanation:

 • Alkenes are a type of unsaturated hydrocarbons which means they have a double bond in their structure, or lack maximum number of hydrogen atoms on each carbon.
 • Alkenes have a general formula of CnH2n. They are called unsaturated hydrocarbons since they have a double bond. They are therefore less stable compared to alkanes and also are readily reactive.

Draw structures from the following names, and determine which compounds are optically active:(c) 1,2-dibromo-2-methylbutane
dolphi86 [110]

The given compound 1,2-dibromo-2-methylbutane is an optically active compound .

Because this compound does not have plane of symmetry (POS) and center of symmetry (COS) i.e. does not have di-symmetry . And also forms non superimposable mirror image . the compound is optically active .

It has chiral center.

Here , the chiral carbon is attached to the 4 distinct groups such as : methyl , ethyl , bromine , bromomethane .

What is di-symmetry?

Di-symmetry is that which have no center of symmetry and plane of symmetry and alternate axis of symmetry .

Chiral center :

Have Sp3 hybridized center (4sigma bond ) .

4 distinct group is attached to the chiral atom. form non -superimposable mirror image .

What is optical isomerism ?

Same molecular formula and same structural formula . also have same physical and chemical properties .

They differ in their behavior towards plane polarized light (ppl) .

The functional groups in an organic compound can frequently be deduced from its infrared absorption spectrum. A compound, C5H10O
vova2212 [387]

Answer:The functional groups in an organic compound can frequently be deduced from its infrared absorption spectrum. A compound, C5H10O2, exhibits strong, broad absorption across the 2500-3200 cm^1 region and an intense absorption at 1715 cm'^-1. Relative absorption intensity: (s)=strong, (m)-medium, (w) weak. What functional class(cs) docs the compound belong to List only classes for which evidence is given here. Attach no significance to evidence not cited explicitly. Do not over-interpret exact absorption band positions. None of your inferences should depend on small differences like 10 to 20 cm^1. The functional class(es) of thla compound is(are) alkane (List only if no other functional class applies.) alkene terminal alkyne internal alkyne arene alcohol ether amine aldehyde or ketone carboxylic acid ester nitr
