two horses on opposite sides of a narrow stream are pulling a barge along the stream. Each horse pulls with a force of 720N. The

ropes from the horses to a common point on the front of the barge from an angle of 60 degrees with each other. What is the resultant force exerted by the two horses?

Each horse's force forms a right angle triangle with the barge and subtends an angle of 60/2 = 30°. The resultant in the direction of the barge's motion is:
Fx = Fcos(∅)
We can multiply this by 2 to find the resultant of both horses.
Fx = 2Fcos(∅)
Fx = 2 x 720cos(30)
Fx = 1247 N

Answer:T=1316.21 N

Explanation:

The tension has two components: Vertical and Horizontal. The

horizontal component is ma, the vertical component is mg. Using

Pythagoras theorem, we can find the tension as:

T=((ma)^2 (mg)^2)^(1/2)

So

T=((129*2.84)^2 (129*9.8)^2)^(1/2)

T=1316.21 N

Which of the following has potential but not kinetic energy?
gavmur [86]

The answer would be option D "a ball sitting on a shelf." Potential energy is the amount of energy a object has while it's at rest.. (or not moving) Kinetic energy is how much energy a object is while it's moving. So in this case it's option D because a ball sitting on a shelf isn't moving therefore it has potential energy. It's not option A because thats a example of kinetic energy since how the roller coaster is moving. It's not option B because it's kinetic energy because the bike is moving. It's also not option C because it's kinetic energy because the bird is moving.

Hope this helps!
