The jet streams are narrow bands of fast moving air. They travel from the west coast towards the east coast over the United States, and so an aircraft flying from New York to Los Angeles would be flying into the jet stream rather than with it. This would cause the following:
- The flight would use more fuel, as the aircraft must push its way against the force of the jet stream
- The flight would also take longer, as thrust is needed to push against the jet stream as well as to push the aircraft forwards.

Select the correct answer
VMariaS [17]

Answer:

Mary's average speed is 0.42 meters/second.

Explanation:

Mary's total travel was 250 meters and the elapsed time was 10 minutes, equivalent to 600 seconds.

d = displacement = 80 meters + 125 meters + 45 meters = 250 meters

t = time = 10 minutes . 60 seconds/minute = 600 seconds

We can obtain now the average speed:

s = average speed = displacement / time = 250 meters / 600 seconds ≅ 0.4167 ≅ 0.42

Compare wave A with wave B correctly in relation to amplitude.
olga nikolaevna [1]
We know for a fact that D and A can be eliminated from the answer choices because those are both false. we know that both B and C are both very accurate knowing that wave B does have a higher pitch than wave A but also wave A has a louder sound wave than wave B. so i'd say the answer is (C).

Which statement is true about a planet’s orbital motion?
lana66690 [7]

Answer:

Orbital motion results when the object’s forward motion is balanced by a second object’s gravitational pull.

Explanation:

The gravitational force is responsible for the orbital motion of the planet, satellite, artificial satellite, and other heavenly bodies in outer space.

When an object is applied with a velocity that is equal to the velocity of the orbit at that location, the body continues to move forward. And, this motion is balanced by the gravitational pull of the second object.

The orbiting body experience a centripetal force that is equal to the gravitational force of the second object towards the body.

The velocity of the orbit is given by the relation,

                                    V = \sqrt{\frac{GM}{R + h} }

Where

                   V - velocity of the orbit at a height h from the surface

                    R - Radius of the second object

                    G - Gravitational constant

                    h - height from the surface

The body will be in orbital motion when its kinetic motion is balanced by gravitational force.

                         1/2 mV^{2} = GMm/R

Hence, the orbital motion results when the object’s forward motion is balanced by a second object’s gravitational pull.

A 0.500 kg bullet is fired from a gun at 25.0 m/s, how much kinetic energy does it have?
slamgirl [31]

Considering the definition of kinetic energy, the bullet has a kinetic energy of 156.25 J.

Kinetic energy

Kinetic energy is a form of energy. It is defined as the energy associated with bodies that are in motion and this energy depends on the mass and speed of the body.

Kinetic energy is defined as the amount of work necessary to accelerate a body of a given mass and in a rest position, until it reaches a given speed. Once this point is reached, the amount of accumulated kinetic energy will remain the same unless there is a change in speed or the body returns to its rest state by applying a force to it.

The kinetic energy is represented by the following expression:

Ec= ½ mv²

Where:

  • Ec is the kinetic energy, which is measured in Joules (J).
  • m is the mass measured in kilograms (kg).
  • v is the speed measured in meters over seconds (m/s).

Kinetic energy of a bullet

In this case, you know:

  • m= 0.500 kg
  • v= 25 m/s

Replacing in the definition of kinetic energy:

Ec= ½ ×0.500 kg× (25 m/s)²

Solving:

Ec= 156.25 J

Finally, the bullet has a kinetic energy of 156.25 J.
