Which statement below is FALSE? Hydrated ions are stabilized by the surrounding water molecules. Water molecules orient such tha

t their oxygen atoms point toward an anion in solution. Water molecules in the inner sphere of hydration of an ion are involved in ion–dipole interactions. When an ionic compound dissolves in water, the ions interact with the permanent dipoles of the water molecules. Liquid ammonia, NH3, like water, could experience ion–dipole interactions with dissolved ions.

Answer:

The statement FALSE is: Water molecules orient such that their oxygen atoms point toward an anion in solution.

Explanation:

The water molecules have a tetrahedral geometry with their two hydrogen atoms separated by an angle of 104,5º and the two pairs of unbonded electrons on the opposite side. These two pairs of unbonded electrons make a power negative density in opposite of the positive density of the two hydrogen. This causes the dipole orientation of the molecule to be with the oxygen orient toward the cations and the hydrogens orient toward the anions.

The temperature of a system rises by 45°C during a heating process. Express this rise in temperature in Kelvin. (Round the final
postnew [5]

Answer:

45K

Explanation:

Rise in temperature = Final - initial temperature.

temperature in K = Temperature in Celsius + 273

for Celsius; T2 -T1 =45°C

for kelvin; T2+273 -(T1+273) = ?

                T2+273 -T1-273 =?

                T2-T1 = ?

               T2-T1 =45k

hence ΔT(K) = ΔT(°C) (temperature difference in Celsius is equal to temperature difference in kelvin)
