Valence electrons are the electrons in the outermost shell. Those are the electrons on an atom that can be gained or lost in a chemical reaction.
Elements that are left on the periodic table have relatively few valence electrons, and can form ions more easily by losing their valence electrons to form positively charged cations.
Nonmetals are further to the right on the periodic table, so they gain electrons relatively easily and lose them with difficulty.

3. All the following steps need to be followed when naming alkanes, except A. locating the longest carbon chain. B. using prefix
gulaghasi [49]

Answer:

D. beginning numbering at the end farther from the first branch.

Explanation:

In naming alkanes, the longest continuous chain in the compound is first considered and this gives the name of the compound intended. The name of the substituent on the compound are also arranged in alphabetical order when naming the compound.

The carbon atoms are numbered in the parent chain or ring to indicate where branching or substitution takes place. The direction of numbering is chosen such that the lowest numbers possible is given to the branches or substituents. If we begin the numbering at the end farther from the first branch, we won't give the lowest numbers possible to the branches.

See explanation, some might be graded as wrong if it's an automatic grading system but most

Explanation:

1. lose
2. valence
3. noble (Atoms don't actually always do this, but since the word gas is after the blank, it is the only option)

4. 4
5. have
6. 10
