Answer:

Time taken to accelerate to 48 m/s =  8 seconds

Explanation:

Initially the object is moving south at = 16 m/s

So, initial velocity of the object = 16 m/s

Acceleration caused by the force = 4 m/s^2

Final velocity towards south = 48 m/s

Using equation of motions:

v_f=v_i+at

where

v_f\rightarrow final velocity

v_i\rightarrow initial velocity

a\rightarrow acceleration

t\rightarrow time

Plugging in values.

48=16+(4)t

48=16+4t

Subtracting both sides by 16

48-16=16+4t-16

32=4t

Dividing both side by 4.

\frac{32}{4}=\frac{4t}{4}

8=t

∴ t=8

Time taken to accelerate to 48 m/s =  8 seconds

Energy can be blank from one form to another
Tanya [424]

Answer: "converted"

Energy can be converted from one form to another

Explanation:

The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but converted from one form to another.

For instance:

- an electric generator convert mechanical energy to electrical energy

- a solar panel system convert solar energy to electrical energy.

- an electric pressing iron convert electrical energy to heat energy

Thus, energy can be converted from one form to another

Compare a change in temperature of 1°C to a change of 1°F.
NikAS [45]

Answer:

A change of one degree Celsius = a change of one Kelvin, but a Celsius temperature is never equal to a Kelvin temperature. A change of 1 degree Fahrenheit equals a change of 5/9 = 0.56 degrees Celsius. To convert a Fahrenheit temperature to Celsius, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9.

A system had 150 kj of work done on it and its internal energy increased by 60 kj. How much energy did the system gain or lose a
mina [271]

Answer:

The system loses 90 kJ of heat

Explanation:

We can answer the question by using the 1st law of thermodynamics, which states that:

\Delta U=Q-W

where

\Delta U is the change in internal energy of the system

Q is the heat absorbed by the system (positive if absorbed, negative if released by the system)

W is the work done by the system (positive if done by the system, negative if done by the surrounding on the system)

In this problem, we have:

W=-150 kJ is the work done (negative, because it is done by the surrounding on the system)

\Delta U=+60 kJ is the increase in internal energy

Using the equation above, we can find Q, the heat absorbed/released by the system:

Q=\Delta U+W=+60 kJ+(-150 kJ)=-90 kJ

And the negative sign means that the system has lost this heat.
