Answer:

The partial pressure in mm Hg for each of the species are:

PCO = 0

PH2 = 3874

PCH3OH = 347

The total pressure is 4221

Explanation:

We have to use Ideal gas equation PV = nRT and Partial pressure rule Total Pressure= ∑ Partial pressures.

We have following data:

T= 357K (85+272); nCO=0.078 (2.2/28); nH2 = 2.43 (4.86/2); R=62.36

With equation CO(g) + 2 H2(g) → CH3OH(g) we can calculate the amount of moles the reaction has finished. The limit reagent is CO because is consumed completely and moles CO in flask are 0. According to equation, every CO mol produces one CH3OH mol. That means 0.078 CO moles produces 0.078 CH3OH moles. From Ideal gas equation we have P=nRT/V.

Applying:

PH2=0.87*62.36*357/5=3874

PCH3OH =0.078*62.36*357/5=347

Total P = 3874+347=4221

I hope my answer helps you

7. Compare and contrast a dilute solution of a strong acid
Cloud [144]

Explanation:

An acid is a substance that ionizes to produce excess hydrogen ion in solutions.

  • A concentrated acid contains a high amount of hydrogen ions in solution compared to other ions.
  • Such solutions usually ionizes completely.
  • A dilute solution contains a high proportion of water and with low amount of hydrogen ions.
  • They do not ionize easily and as fast as strong acids.

Using average bond enthalpies (linked above), estimate the enthalpy change for the following reaction: OF2(g) + H2O(g)O2(g) + 2H
andreev551 [17]

Answer:

Ehthalpy change for the reaction is -323 kJ

Explanation:

Enthalpy change for a reaction, \Delta H_{rxn} is given as:

\Delta H_{rxn}=\sum [n_{i}\times (E_{bond})_{i}]-\sum [n_{j}\times (E_{bond})_{j}]

Where (E_{bond})_{i} and (E_{bond})_{j} represents average bond energy in breaking "i" th bond and forming "j" th bond respectively. n_{i} and n_{j} are number of moles of bond break and form respectively.

Reaction: F-O-F+H-O-H\rightarrow O=O+2H-F

Here, 2 moles of O-F bond and 2 moles of of O-H bond are broken

          1 mol of O=O and 2 moles of H-F bonds are formed.

So, \Delta H_{rxn}=[2mol\times E_{O-F}]+[2mol\times E_{O-H}]-[1mol\times E_{O=O}]-[2mol\times E_{H-F}]

So, \Delta H_{rxn}=[2mol\times 190kJ/mol]+[2mol\times 463kJ/mol]-[1mol\times 495kJ/mol]-[2mol\times 567kJ/mol]=-323kJ
