20.0 g of Nitrogen is produced when oxygen gas reacts with NO gas. 29.8 L of oxygen is required at STP to produce this 20.0 g of
Rainbow [258]

Answer:

There will be produced 30.64 grams of nitrogen dioxide

The statement is false

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

MAss of nitrogen produced = 20.0 grams

Molar mass of N2 = 28.0 g/mol

Mass of NO = 20.0 grams

Molar mass of NO = 30.01 g/mol

Volume of O2 at STP = 29.8 L

Step 2: the balanced equation

2NO + O2 → 2N02

Step 3: Calculate moles NO

Moles NO = mass NO / molar mas NO

Moles NO = 20.0 grams / 30.01 g/mol

Moles NO = 0.666 moles

Step 4: Calculate moles O2

1 mol O2 at STP = 22.4 L

29.8 L = 29.8/22.4 = 1.33 moles

Step 5: Calculate the limiting reactant

For 2 moles NO we need 1 mol O2 to produce 2 moles NO2

NO is the limiting reactant. IT will completely be consumed (0.666 moles).

O2 is in excess. There will react 0.666/2 = 0.333 moles O2

There will remain 1.333 - 0.333 = 0.997 moles O2

Step 6: Calculate moles NO2

For 2 moles NO we need 1 mol O2 to produce 2 moles NO2

For 0.666 moles NO we'll have 0.666 moles NO2

Step 7: Calculate mass NO2

Mass NO2 = moles NO2 * molar mass NO2

Mass NO2 = 0.666 moles * 46.0 g/mol

Mass NO2 = 30.64 grams

There will be produced 30.64 grams of nitrogen dioxide

The statement is false

When might a plot of ln[a] vs time not yield a straight line?
podryga [215]
Considering a reaction:
A → B
The rate equation may be described as:
r = -k[A]ⁿ
Taking the natural log,
ln(r) = -nln([A]) + ln(k)
Therefore, the only time the graph of ln[A] vs time will be a straight line is when the order of the reaction is 0, meaning the reaction is independent of reactant concentration.

Please help, once again. Can't seem to get this...
sveta [45]
In one H₂O molecule, there are two hydrogen atoms along with one oxygen atom. So for every 1 oxygen atom (of which there are 2 of in an oxygen gas molecule) there needs to be 2 hydrogen atoms per oxygen( which in the equation of 2H2 +O2–> 2H2, that 2 H2 is broken down into 4 hydrogen atoms which means 2 hydrogen atoms have to bond to 1 oxygen atom and with 4 hydrogen atoms, there will be 2 atoms of oxygen which creates 2 molecules of water.

So to solve the question,
10.5g/2=5.25g of oxygen required to fully react with hydrogen to make water

4. How many grams of ammonium carbonate are needed to decompose in order to produce
Thepotemich [5.8K]

Answer:

14.23g of (NH4)2CO3

Explanation:

We'll begin by writing the balanced equation for the reaction.

(NH4)2CO3 –> (NH4)2O + CO2

Next,, we shall determine the mass of (NH4)2CO3 that decomposed and the mass of CO2 produced from the balanced equation. This is illustrated below:

Molar mass of (NH4)2CO3 = 2[14+(4x1)] + 12 + (16x3)

= 2[14 +4] + 12 + 48

= 2[18] + 60 = 96g/mol

Mass of (NH4)2CO3 from the balanced equation = 1 x 96 = 96g

Molar mass of CO2 = 12 + (2x16) = 44g/mol

Mass of CO2 from the balanced equation = 1 x 44 = 44g.

Summary:

From the balanced equation above,

96g of (NH4)2CO3 decomposed to produce 44g of CO2.

Finally, we can determine the mass of (NH4)2CO3 that decomposed to produce 6.52g of CO2 as follow:

From the balanced equation above,

96g of (NH4)2CO3 decomposed to produce 44g of CO2.

Therefore, Xg of (NH4)2CO3 will decompose to produce 6.52g of CO2 i.e

Xg of (NH4)2CO3 = (96 x 6.52)/44

Xg of (NH4)2CO3 = 14.23g

Therefore, 14.23g of (NH4)2CO3 is needed to produce 6.52g of CO2.
