Chemistry

Answer:

The speed is constant.

Explanation:

The equation for a straight-line graph is

<em>y</em> = m<em>x</em> + b

where m and b are constants.

m is the <em>slope</em> of the line and b is the <em>y-intercept. </em>

If we change the variables, the equation becomes

<em>d</em> = m<em>t</em> + b

m = \frac{\Delta d}{\Delta t} = = \frac{\text{ distance}}{\text{time}} = \text{speed}

Since m is constant, so is the speed.

How does an ion differ from an atom?
Alex73 [517]
An atom is the smallest particle of an element that retains the chemical properties of the element. Atoms are electrically neutral, with a positively charged nucleus that binds one or more electrons in motion around it. An ion-An atom or molecule that has acquired a charge by either gaining or losing electrons. An atom or molecule with missing electrons has a net positive charge and is called a cation*; one with extra electrons has a net negative charge and is called an anion*.

what is the number of pairs of electrons that are shared between the nitrogen atoms in a molecule of N2
lesantik [10]
A Nitrogen got 7 electrons, which means every Nitrogen got 3 pairs of electrons and 1 single electron, ready to be shared.
A second nitrogen come with the same amount of electrons, 3 pairs and 1 single ready to shared.
The 2 nitrogens put in common their single electrons to create a pair.
Which means, that 1 pair of electron is shared between the nitrogens in a molecule of N2

Hope this Helps! :)

What are the ionic bonds
zhuklara [117]

Explanation:

Ionic bonds are bonds formed as a result of the electrostatic attraction between two species.

  • This bond type is an interatomic bond.
  • It forms when two specie with a large electronegative difference between them combines.
  • This is usually a metal and a non-metal.
  • The metal loses its valence electrons and becomes positively charged.
  • The non-metal gains the electron and becomes negatively charged.
  • An electrostatic attraction between the two specie leads to the formation of an ionic bond.
  • They are solids with a high melting point.
  • They are soluble in polar solvents.
