Which equation represents the reaction of a weak acid with water?
shusha [124]
Acid is anything which will give H+ to other species.

Have a look at the equations given.

In A) HCl changes to Cl- by giving its H+ to H2O. So HCl is an acid.

In B) HCO3- changes to H2CO3^2- by accepting H+. It did Not give its H+ rather it takes from other species. So it is not an acid at all.

In C) H2O is just breaking to H+ and OH-. It is not giving H+ to other species. So it is also not an acid in this reaction.

In D) HCOOH is giving its H+ to H2O. So it is also an acid.

So out of all reactions with water. The only two species are acting as acid with water namely HCl and HCOOH.

Out of these two HCl is very strong acid but HCOOH is a weak acid.

So the answer is D

Mkey [24]

D. It is a chemical change because solubility in water of Solid A is different than the solubility in water or both Potassium Iodide and Silver Nitrate

Explanation:

From the given table which summarizes findings about the experiment, we can conclude that It is a chemical change because solubility in water of Solid A is different than the solubility in water of both Potassium Iodide and Silver Nitrate.

  • A chemical change is a form of change in which new substances are produced.
  • A physical change is one in which the states of matter changes especially the form.

Now we that two soluble substances goes to insoluble product.

  • A substance is soluble when they go into solution with a solvent of the same type.
  • This change from solubility to insolubility of a compound is a typical chemical change.
  • Other forms of changes are just physical changes.

Calculate the molality of a solution containing 100.7 g of glycine (NH2CH2COOH) dissolved in 3.466 kg of H2O.
LuckyWell [14K]

Answer : The molality of a solution is, 0.387 mol/kg

Explanation : Given,

Mass of solute (glycine) = 100.7 g

Mass of solvent (water) = 3.466 kg

Molar mass of glycine = 75.1 g/mole

Formula used :

Molality=\frac{\text{Mass of solute}}{\text{Molar mass of solute}\times \text{Mass of solvent}}

Now put all the given values in this formula, we get:

Molality=\frac{100.7g}{75.1g/mol\times 3.466kg}

Molality=0.387mol/kg

Thus, the molality of a solution is, 0.387 mol/kg
