A shell-and-tube heat exchanger is to heat 10,000 kg/hr of water from 16 oC to 84 oC by hot engine oil flowing through the shell

. The oil makes a single shell pass, entering at 160 oC and leaving at 94 oC, with an average heat transfer coefficient of 400 W/m2K. The water flows through 11 brass tubes of 22.9 mm inside diameter and 25.4 mm outside diameter, with each tube making 4 passes through the shell.
Required:
a. Assuming fully developed flow determine the required tube length per pass.
b. For the tube length found in part (1), plot the effectiveness, fluid outlet temperatures, and water-side convection coefficient as a function of water flow rate for 5000 <=15,000 kg/h, with all other conditions remaining the same.

The jib crane is supported by a pin at Cand rod AB. The rod can withstand a maximum tension of 40 kN. If the load has a mass of
lakkis [162]

Answer:

The maximum allowable distance = 5 m

Explanation:

Data:

There will be three forces on the jib. Let the forces be denoted as:

C_{x}, C_{y} and the force on pole AB

To find the angle AB makes with the horizontal beam:

tan^{-1}(\frac{3}{4}) = 36.8699

The load has a mass of 2 000 kg then, the force will be:

F = mg, where g = 9.81 m/s²

  = 2000* 9.81 = 19 620 N

Breaking AB into its x and y coordinates:

AB_{x}=ABcos(36.8699)\\AB_{y} = ABsin(36.8699)

Then,

∑M_{c} = 0

0 = (4)(AB sin (36.8699) + 0.2 (AB cos (36.8699) - (5*19620)\\AB = 38 320. 3 N

∑F_{x} = 0\\C_{x} = AB cos(36.8699)\\C_{x} = 30 656.2 N

∑F_{y} = 0\\C_{y} + AB sin (36.8699) - 19 620 = 0\\C_{y} = - 3 372.18 N

so the components of the forces will be 30 656.2 N and - 3 372.18 N

When bending metal, the material on the outside of the curve stretches while the material on the inside of the curve compresses.
Nostrana [21]

That part of the material which is not affected by either stress is the neutral line or axis.

<h3>What is the technique known as whilst you bend steel?</h3>

Sheet Metal Bending – Methods, Design Tips & K Factor. Bending is one of the maximum not unusual place sheet steel fabrication operations. Also referred to as press braking, flanging, die bending, folding and edging, this technique is used to deform a cloth to an angular shape. This is finished thru the utility of pressure on a workpiece.

The neutral axis is in which neither the fabric stretches nor is compressed. Hence, the duration of the nuetral axis lives the identical earlier than and after the bending operation.

You are an engineer working in a auto crash test lab. Some members of your team have raised objections against the use of cadave
Nikolay [14]

Answer: Application.

Explanation:

The question on wether to contine the use of cadavers in the lab for test is being centered around its application. Cadaver which is same as a corpse or dead body is used in crash site during automobil test in lab, some of this cadavers are been disrespected with their applications in the automobile industries because many didn’t consent to be used in those experiments or test.

How can we calculate the speed of the output gear in a simple gear train? Explain with the help of an example.
Snowcat [4.5K]

Answer:

N_3=\dfrac{T_1}{T_3}N_1

Explanation:

In the diagram there three gears in which gear 1 is input gear ,gear 2 is idle gear and gear 3 is out put gear.

Lets take

Speed\ of\ gear 1=N_1

Number\ of\ teeth\ of\ gear 1=T_1

Speed\ of\ gear 3=N_3

Number\ of\ teeth\ of\ gear 3=T_3

All external matting gears will rotates in opposite direction with respect to each other.

So the speed of gear third can be given as follows

\dfrac{T_1}{T_3}=\dfrac{N_3}{N_1}

N_3=\dfrac{T_1}{T_3}N_1
