What has to be true of a substance for it to dissolve in water?
lord [1]

The polarity of a water molecule comes from the uneven distribution of electron density of hydrogen and oxygen atom. The oxygen in the water molecule is more electronegative than the hydrogen. Water has a partial positive charge near the hydrogen atom and a partial negative charge near the oxygen atom. The result of this electrostatic attraction results in the bond called hydrogen bond. Also, because of this bond, it has the ability to dissolve most of the solutes due to its polarity and bonding.

. how many lone pairs of electrons are present in the lewis structure of calcium sulfide?
miv72 [106K]
Answer:
            Four

Explanation:
Calcium Sulfide is an ionic compound made up of Ca²⁺ and S²⁻.
Ca²⁺ is formed as,

                                   Ca → Ca²⁺ + 2 e⁻

These two electrons are accepte by Sulfur as,

                                     S + 2 e⁻ → S²⁻

So, before accepting 2 electrons S was having six valence electrons, after accepting two electrons from Ca it has 8 electrons which are present in four pairs as shown below,

Which measurement has the greatest number of significant figures?
soldi70 [24.7K]

Answer:

Option B = 60,600 mg (correct option)

Explanation:

First of all we will have an idea which numbers are consider as significant.

1 = All non-zero digits are consider significant figures like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

2= Leading zeros are not consider as a significant figures. e.g. 0.02 in this number only one significant figure present which is 2.

3= Zero between the non zero digits are consider significant like 105 consist of three significant figures.

4= The zeros at the right side e.g 3400 are also significant. There are four significant figures are present.

In given options, Option A 60.6 mg have 3 significant figures.

Option B have 5 significant figures.

Option C have 4 significant figures.

Option D have 3 significant figures.

Thus option b is correct option which have more significant figures.
