Answer:

a)

For Methylcyclohexane  N₁ = 2770

For Methylcyclohexene N₂ = 2827

For Toluene N₃ = 2557

b) the standard deviation for the average in (a) is 143.31

c)

For Methylcyclohexane; H₁ = 0.01444 cm

For Methylcyclohexene; H₂ = 0.01415 cm

For Toluene; H₃ = 0.01564 cm

Explanation:

Given the data in the question;

Gas-liquid chromatography on a 40-cm packed column:

Compound                   tR, min                           W, min

Air                                   1.9                                    —

Methylcyclohexane      10.0                               0.76

Methylcyclohexene      10.9                               0.82

Toluene                        13.4                                1.06

a)

an average number of plates from the data;

To get the Number of plates N, we use the following expression;

N = 16( tR / W )², we use it for Methylcyclohexane, Methylcyclohexene and Toluene

-

For Methylcyclohexane  N₁ = 16( 10 / 0.76 )² = 16( 173.13 ) = 2770.08 ≈ 2770

-

For Methylcyclohexene N₂ = 16( 10.9 / 0.82 )² = 16( 176.7 ) = 2827.2 ≈ 2827

-

For Toluene N₃ = 16( 13.4 / 1.06 )² = 16( 159.8078 ) = 2556.9 ≈ 2557

b) standard deviation for the average in (a).

First we get the mean;

Mean N" = ( N₁ + N₂ + N₃ ) / 3 = ( 2770 + 2827 + 2557 ) / 3 = 8154 / 3 = 2718

Next we determine the deviation

d₁² = (N₁ - N")² = (2770 - 2718)² = (52)² = 2704

d₂² = (N₂ - N")² = (2827 - 2718)² = (109)² = 11881

d₃² = (N₃ - N")² = (2557 - 2718)² = (-161)² = 25,921

∴ ∑d²_i = 40506

Standard Deviation S = √( ∑d²_i  / ( n-1 ) )

Standard Deviation S = √( 40506 / ( 3-1 )

Standard Deviation S = √( 40506 / 2 )

Standard Deviation S = √( 20253 )

Standard Deviation S = 143.31

Therefore, the standard deviation for the average in (a) is 143.31

c)

an average plate height for the column

Given that; Gas-liquid chromatography on a 40-cm packed column, L = 40 cm

-

For Methylcyclohexane; H₁ = L/N₁ = 40 / 2770 = 0.01444 cm

-

For Methylcyclohexene; H₂ = L/N₂ = 40 / 2827  = 0.01415 cm

-

For Toluene; H₃ = L/N₃ = 40 / 2557 = 0.01564 cm

A sample of gas exhibits ideal behavior and occupies a volume of 350. mL at 25.0C and 1.00atm. How many moles of gas are present
VladimirAG [237]

The number of mole of the gas present in the sample which occupies a volume of 350 mL at 25 °C and 1 atm is 0.0143 mole

From the question given above, the following data were obtained:

Volume (V) = 350 mL = 350 / 1000 = 0.35 L

Temperature (T) = 25 °C = 25 + 273 = 298 K

Pressure (P) = 1 atm

Gas constant (R) = 0.0821 atm.L/Kmol

Number of mole (n) =?

With the application of the ideal gas equation, the number of mole of the gas present in the sample can be obtained as follow:

PV = nRT

1 × 0.35 = n × 0.0821 × 298

0.35 = n × 24.4658

Divide both side by 24.4658

n = 0.35 / 24.4658

n = 0.0143 mole

Therefore, the number of mole of the gas present in the sample is 0.0143 mole

The mass of the ocean is about 1.8 1021 kg. if the ocean contains 1.076% by mass sodium ions, na+, what is the mass in kilograms
castortr0y [4]
In chemistry, if you want to express the amount of a substance out of the total amount, you express it in concentration. There are numerous units of measurement: molarity, molality, normality, mass percentages, volume percentage, or a mix of both. For this problem, the unit used for concentration is in mass percentages. The formula would be

Percentage Concentration = [(Actual Amount of Substance)/(Total amount of all substances)] * 100

Since we are given with the total mass of all the substances in the ocean and the percentage concentration, the only missing information is the actual amount of Na+ in the ocean. Substituting the values:

1.076 = (Amount of Na+ /1.8×10²¹ kg)*100
Amount of Na+ = 1.9368×10¹⁹ kg

. A container with a volume of 0.50 L contains air at a pressure of 1.0 atm. If the volume is reduced to 0.10 L at constant temp
marin [14]

Answer:

The answer to your question is Pressure = 5 atm

Explanation:

Data

Volume 1 = V1 = 0.5 l

Pressure 1 = P1 = 1 atm

Volume 2 = V2 = 0.1 l

Pressure 2 = P2 = x

Formula

To solve this problem use the Boyle's equation

                      V1P1 = V2P2

Solve for P2

                     P2 = V1P1/V2

Substitution

                     P2 = (0.5 x 1) / 0.1

Simplification

                     P2 = 0.5/0.1

Result

                     P2 = 5 atm

G The first step in the catabolism of amino acids is the removal of the nitrogen as ammonia, forming a keto acid that can enter
Blizzard [7]

Answer:

B. alanine aminotransferase.

Explanation:

Ketogenic amino acid contain low carbohydrate and have the keto acid group present in them. Examples of ketogenic amino acid include alanine, cysteine, glycine, serine, and threonine. These amino acids are usually converted to pyruvate.

Alanine aminotransferase helps by catalyzing the transfer of an amino group from alanine to alpha-ketoglutarate in the alanine cycle to form pyruvate and glutamate.
