Answer:

a.  -4.166 J/K

b. 8.37 J/K

c. 4.21 J/K

d. entropy always increases.

Explanation:

Given :

Temperature at hot reservoir , $T_h$ = 720 K

Temperature at cold reservoir , $T_c$ = 358 K

Transfer of heat, dQ = 3.00 kJ = 3000 J

(a). In the hot reservoir, the change of entropy is given by:

$dS_h= -\frac{dQ}{t_h}$              (the negative sign shows the loss of heat)

$dS_h= -\frac{3000}{720}$

      =  -4.166 J/K

(b)  In the cold reservoir, the change of entropy is given by:

$dS_c= \frac{dQ}{t_c}$

$dS_c= \frac{3000}{358}$

      =  8.37 J/K

(c). The entropy change in the universe is given by:

$dS=dS_h+dS_c$

    = -4.16+8.37

   = 4.21 J/K

(d). According to the concept of entropy, the entropy of the universe is always increasing and never decreasing for an irreversible process. If the entropy of universe decreases, it violates the laws of thermodynamics. Hence, in part (c), the result have to be positive.

A car travels 35 km west and 90 km north in two hours what is its average velocity?
blagie [28]
Average velocity =  Total Displacement / Total time taken

Total displacement is the distance from starting to end point.

35km west then 90km north. When you will draw this and connect starting to end point. You will get a right angled triangle.

So displacement = \sqrt{35^2+90^2}

= 96.56 km

So, Total displacement = 96.56 km

So, Average Velocity = 96.56 / 2  = 48.28 km/hr

3 kg of wet clothes are hung on the middle of a clothesline with posts 6 ft apart. The clothesline sags down by 3 feet. What is
miskamm [114]

Answer:

Tension in string equals 14.715 Newtons

Explanation:

The situation is represented in the figure attached below:

For equilibrium of the clothes along y- axis we have

\sum F_{v}=0\\\\\Rightarrow 2Tcos(\theta )=W\\\\\therefore T=\frac{W}{2cos(\theta )}

Applying values we get

\sum F_{v}=0\\\\\Rightarrow 2Tcos(\theta )=W\\\\\therefore T=\frac{3\times 9.81}{2\times 1}=14.715N(\because cos(\theta )=\frac{3}{3}=1)

Suatu sistem gas berada didalam ruang yang fleksibel. Pada awalnya gas berada pada kondisi P1 = 1,5 × 10 pangkat 5 N/m2, T1 = 27
enot [183]

Answer:

16.00L

Explanation:

First you calculate the number of moles in the system:

PV=nRT\\\\n=\frac{PV}{RT}\\\\n=\frac{(1.5*10^5N/m^2)(12L)}{(0.082L.atm/mol.K)(300.15K)}=73134.16\ mol

To find the new volume of the system you use the following formula for an isobaric procedure:

T_2-T_1=\frac{P}{nR}(V_2-V_1)\\\\V_2=\frac{nR}{P}(T_2-T_1)+V_1\\\\V_2=\frac{(73134.16\ mol)(0.082L.atm/mol.K)}{1.5*10^5N/m^2}(400.15-300.15)K+12L\\\\V_2=16.00L

hence, the new volume is 16.00L
