Let's assume

Amy has x peaches

John has y peaches

Amy and John shared 150 peaches

so, we get

x+y=150

now, we can solve for y

y=150-x

we are given

(1/3) of what Amy has equals to (1/2) of what John has

\frac{1}{3} x=\frac{1}{2}y

now, we can plug y

\frac{1}{3} x=\frac{1}{2}(150-x)

we can cross multiply

and we get

2x=3(150-x)

2x=450-3x

5x=450

x=90

now, we can find y

y=150-90

y=60

so,

Amy has 90 peaches

John has 60 peaches..........Answer

A pound of rice crackers costs $2.88.Matthew purchased 1/4 pound of crackers.How much did he pay for the crackers?
vodomira [7]
A pound of rice crackers ... $2.88
1/4 pound of crackers ... $x = ?

If you would like to know how much did Matthew pay for the crackers, you can calculate this using the following steps:

1 * x = 1/4 * 2.88
x = 1/4 * 2.88
x = $0.72

Result: Matthew paid $0.72 for 1/4 pound of crackers.

8a - 4b = 20<br>5a - 8b = 62<br><br>What are the values of a and b?
erastovalidia [21]

Answer:

a=2 , b= (-1)

Step-by-step explanation:

8a-4b=20/×(-2)

5a-8b=62

-16a+8b= -40

5a-8b=62

now -8+8=0 right? so the only parameter that we have is a.

-16a+5a= -40+62

11a = 22/(÷11)

a=2

in order to find b, we will replace a with its value in one of the original equations (it doesn't matter which one you will choose).For instance, I chose the first one.

8×2-4b=20

-4b=20-16

-4b=4/÷(-4)

b= -1

Estimate by rounding to the nearest hundred.<br>Show your work.<br>12,846 - 3467
Rufina [12.5K]

Answer:

9,400

Step-by-step explanation:

12,846 - 3,467 = 9,379

The hundreds digit is 3.

So, you look to the left of the digit and if it is 5 for more you add a number to the 3 and make the rest of the digits 0s. But if it below 5, then you leave the 3 alone and make the rest of the digit going to the right 0s.

Then, your answer is (9,400)

Hope this helps ; )
