Explain how atomic interactions determine a material to be transparent and opaque?
motikmotik

Answer:

Explanation below.

Explanation:

It should be understood that transparency is caused through or by the transmission of light waves. This means that, If or when the energy known as the vibrational energy of a light wave is passed through the object, then the object appears clear, or transparent. And when or If the energy only causes vibrations in the surface before reflecting off the object, then the object will appear opaque, that is nontransparent.

A police officer is parked by the side of the road, when a speeding car travelling at 50 mi/hrpasses. The police car immediately
Blababa [14]

Answer:

a) time taken to catch up with speeding car is 12.25 secs

b) the police car will travel 273.8 m to catch up with the speeding car

Explanation:

Given that;

speed of car V_{c} = 50 mi/hr = 22.352 m/s

acceleration of police car = 10 mi/hr = 4.47 m/s²

V_{f}  = 70 mi/hr = 31.29 m/s

Now time taken to reach maximum speed is t₁

so

V_{f} =  V_{i} + at₁

we substitute

31.29 = 0 + 4.47t₁

t₁ = 31.29 / 4.47

t₁  = 7 sec

now

d₁ = 0 + 1/2 × at₁²

d₁ = 0 + 1/2 × 0 + 4.47×(7)²

d₁ = 109.5 m

so distance travelled by the speeding car in time t₁  will be

d_{c} = V_{c} × t₁

we substitute

d_{c} = 22.352 × 7

d_{c}  = 156.46 m

now distance between polive car and speeding car

Δd =  d_{c} - d₁

Δd = 156.46 - 109.5

Δd = 46.96 m

time taken to cover Δd will be

t₂ = Δd / ( V_{f} - V_{c} )

t₂ = 46.96 / ( 31.29 - 22.352 )

t₂ = 46.96 / 8.938

t₂ = 5.25 sec

distance travelled by the police in time t₂ will be

d₂ = V_{f} × t₂

d₂ = 31.29 × 5.25

d₂ = 164.3 m

a) How long will it take before the officer catches up to the speeding car;

time taken to catch up with speeding car;

t = t₁ + t₂

t = 7 + 5.25

t = 12.25 secs

Therefore, time taken to catch up with speeding car is 12.25 secs

b)  how far will it have travelled in order to do so;

distance = d₁ + d₂

distance = 109.5 + 164.3

distance = 273.8 m

Therefore, the police car will travel 273.8 m to catch up with the speeding car

Due to efficiency considerations related to its bow wake, the supersonic transport aircraft must maintain a cruising speed that
givi [52]

Answer:

decreases.

Explanation:

When the aircraft is flies from the warm air into the  colder air then its speed will be decreases.

as we know that

we know mach number is constant

so that here Mach number M is expressed as

M = \frac{u}{v}      .............................1

here u is  Local flow velocity with respect to the boundarie and v is the speed of sound in the medium

If the aircraft flies from hot air to cold air, the speed of sound in the medium will decrease. But the Mach number remains constant. Therefore, the local flow velocity relative to the boundaries also decreases.

Deep in the interiors of the giant planets, water is still a liquid even though the temperatures are tens of thousands of degree
Nataliya [291]

Answer:

High pressure inside the giant planet

Explanation:

As we move in the interior of the giant planet, the pressure and temperature in the interior of the planet increases. Since, the giant planets have hardly any solid surface and thus they are mostly constituted of atmosphere.

Also, the gravitational forces keep even the lightest of the matter bound in it contributing to the large mass of the planet.

If we look at the order of the magnitude of the temperature of these giant planets than nothing should be able to stay in liquid form but as the depth of the planet increases with the increase in temperature, pressure also increases which keeps the particle of the matter in compressed form.

Thus even at such high order of magnitude water is still found in liquid state in the interior of the planet.

What is the period of a wave traveling 5 m/s if its wavelength is 20 m/s
Ilia_Sergeevich [38]

Speed of wave is given as

v = 5 m/s

Wavelength of the wave is given as

\lambda = 20 m

now from the formula of wave time period we can say

speed = \frac{wavelength}{time period}

5 = \frac{20}{T}

T = \frac{20}{5}

T = 4 s

so it will have time period of T = 4 s
