For each of the following compounds, decide whether the compound's solubility in aqueous solution changes with pH.
stepladder [879]

Answer:

a. pH raises

b. pH neutral

c. pH raises

Explanation:

First of all we need to dissociate these compounds.

Ca(OH)₂ →  Ca²⁺  +  2OH⁻

This is the calcium hydroxide, a strong base.

In this case, we are giving OH⁻ to medium, so the pH will be increased.

OH⁻  +  H⁺  ⇄  H₂O

Hydroxides will neutralize the protons in order to make water, but if we have many OH, we talk about a basic solution where pH is lower than 7.

b. CuBr → Cu⁺  +  Br⁻

This is similar to NaCl, a ionic salt which is neutral.

The ions from this salt, do not make hydrolisis, that's why pH does not change.

c. Ca₃(PO₄)₂ → 3Ca²⁺  +  2PO₄⁻³

Calcium cathion comes from a strong base. It means, that the ion can not make hydrolisis because it is the conjugate weak acid.

Phosphate anion comes from a weak acid, it can gives OH⁻ to medium so pH will increase; the PO₄⁻³ anion is the conjugate strong base of the phosphoric acid, that's why it can react:

PO₄⁻³ + H₂O  ⇄  H₂PO⁻²  +  OH⁻

Relative formula mass of glucose? (C6H12O6)
Rom4ik [11]

To find the mass of glucose, you must multiply the atomic weight of each of the elements in the molecule by the subscripts in the formula:

C_{6}=6*(12.01g)=72.06g

H_{12}=12*(1.008g)=12.096g

O_{6}=6*(15.999g)=95.994g

Then you add all of them together:

72.06g+12.096g+95.994g=180.15g

Therefore, the molar weight of glucose is 180.15 grams.

The volume of a sample of pure HCl gas was 205 mL at 27°C and 141 mmHg. It was completely dissolved in about 70 mL of water and
netineya [11]

Answer:

The answer to your question is: Molarity = 0.078

Explanation:

Data

HCl

V = 250 ml

T = 27°C = 300 °K

P = 141 mmHg = 0.185 atm

V2 = 70 ml

NaOH

V = 24.3 ml

Molarity NaOH = ?

Process

1.- Calculate the number of moles of HCl

                             PV = nRT

                             n = PV / RT

R = 0.082 atm l / mol K

                             n = (0.185)(0.25) / (0.082)(300)

                             n = 0.046 / 24.6

                             n = 0.0019 moles

2.- Calculate molarity of HCl

 Molarity = moles / volume

Molarity = 0.0019 / 0.070

Molarity = 0.027

3.- Write the balanced equation

                          HCl + NaOH   ⇒   H₂O  +  NaCl

Here, we observe that the proportion HCl to NaOH is 1:1 .

Then 0.0019 moles of HCl reacts with 0.0019 moles of NaOH.

4.- Calculate the molarity of NaOH.

Molarity = 0.0019 / 0.0243

Molarity = 0.078
