Phosphorus has three electrons in its 3p sublevel and sulfur has four. Phosphorus should have the lower ionization energy but it
Nadya [2.5K]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

First of all it is important to know that a half filled orbital is particularly stable. In phosphorus all the electrons occur singly in the 3p sublevel minimizing inter electronic repulsion hence it is more difficult to remove an electron from this energetically stable arrangement. In sulphur, electrons are paired in one of the 3p orbitals thereby lowering the energy of that level due to instability caused by interelectronic repulsion between two electrons in the same orbital.

Whose atomic model could be described as a positive, solid sphere in which electrons are disbursed? A) Rutherford B) Dalton C) T
goldfiish [28.3K]
Thomson suggested the model of atom which was a sphere of positive matter within which electronic forces determined the positioning of the corpuscles. The corpuscles were distributed in a uniform sea of positive charge. This was so-called "plum pudding" model.

for 2Na (s) +Cl2(g)->2NaCl(s) how many grams of sodium chloride will be made from 115 g of sodium metal when when reacted wit
alexandr1967 [171]

The grams of sodium chloride that will be made is 292.5 g

calculation

2Na +Cl₂ → 2NaCl

step 1: calculate the moles of Na

moles = mass/molar mass

From periodic table the molar mass of Na = 23 g/mol

moles = 115 g/23 g /mol = 5 moles

Step 2 : use the mole ratio to determine the moles of NaCl

Na:NaCl is 2:2 = 1:1 therefore the moles of NaCl is also= 5 moles

Step 3: find the mass of NaCl

mass= moles x molar mass

The molar mass of NaCl = 23 + 35 .5 =58.5 g/mol

mass= 5 moles x 58.5 g/mol =292.5 g
