Which of the following does not indicate a chemical change?

Chemistry

I believe the correct answer is the second option. It is crushing a solid into a powder that does not indicate a chemical change. A chemical change is a change of a substance into another substance with another set of properties. Crushing does not change a substance properties so it is only a physical change.

The difference between paper chromatography and thin layer chromatography is that
Lera25 [3.4K]

The basic difference between thin layer chromatography (TLC) and paper chromatography (PC) is that, while the stationary phase in PC is paper, the stationary phase in TLC is a thin layer of an inert substance supported on a flat, unreactive surface. ... Paper chromatography is performed using paper.

A scientist could use DNA as a molecular clock to do which of the following? (2 points)
ad-work [718]

Explanation:

-to determine how long ago two species of animals shared an ancestor

The molecular lock describes a method which utilizes mutation rates for DNA over time, to determine the divergence of two species sharing common ancestry, due to evolution. Along with genetic drift, selective mating and natural selection, evolution may occur within populations due to spontaneous heritable changes to DNA, called mutations, over time.

Further Explanation:

During reproduction, other events, such as crossing over during mitosis and meiosis, mutations lead to increases in genetic variation. This variation refers to the genetic characteristics present within a species. Mutations may be either beneficial or deleterious; they are maintained within cells, as they form new traits called alleles. Beneficial mutations may confer traits that increase the fitness of a species, along with ensuring survival by conferring a protective advantage- these phenotypic differences between organisms are called adaptations.

Sequences of DNA make up genes which can have different forms called alleles. DNA, which makes up the genotype, is transcribed into mRNA and later translated into amino acids which are linked together by rRNA to form proteins which make up the phenotype of an organism. Mutations in DNA sequences affect the corresponding mRNA and thus the protein encoded.

A sucrose solution is prepared to a final concentration of 0.250 M . Convert this value into terms of g/L, molality, and mass %.
MArishka [77]

Answer:

A. 85.6 g

= 0.0856 kg.

B. 0.00027 mol/g

= 0.27 mol/kg.

C. 8.39 %

Explanation:

Given:

Molar concentration = 0.25 M

Molar weight of sucrose = 342.296 g/mol

Density of solution = 1.02 g/mL

Mass of water = 934.4 g.

Density in g/l = 1.020 g/ml * 1000ml/1 l

= 1020 g/l

Mass of solution in 1 l of solution = 1020 g

Mass of solution = mass of solvent + mass of solute

Mass of sucrose = 1020 - 934.4

= 85.6 g of sucrose in 1 l of solution.

A.

Density of sucrose = mass/volume

= molar mass/molar concentration

= 342.296 * 0.25

= 85.6 g/l

Number of moles = mass/molar mass

= 85.6/342.296

= 0.25 mol

B.

Molality = number of moles of solute/mass of solvent

= 0.25/934.4

= 0.00027 mol/g

C.

% mass of sucrose = mass of sucrose/total mass of solution * 100

= 85.6/1020 * 100

= 8.39 %
