Describe the path of an electrical impulse as it moves through a neuron. You must use the words axon
Nat2105 [25]

Answer:

The nerve impulse is not transmitted with the same speed in all neurons. It depends on whether or not the axon is surrounded by cells, the Schwann cells, which produces a white substance, the myelin sheath, which prevents the passage of the nerve impulse and causes you to "jump" between the spaces without the sheath of Myelin (Ranvier nodules), so the speed will be higher.

This type of nerve impulse spread is called "saltatory conduction or spread."

Explanation:

Neurons are cells that have the ability to transmit the nerve impulse in the form of an electric current. The nerve impulse only spreads in one direction. When a neuron is stimulated, electrical changes originate that begin in the dendrites, pass through the neuronal body, and end in the axon.

Neurons can also be classified according to whether or not they have myelin:

- Myelinic neurons Its axons are thicker and the nerve impulse spreads more quickly thanks to the saltatory conduction.

- Unmyelinated neurons They grow myelin, so they drive the nerve impulse more slowly.

The nerve impulse is transmitted along a neuron through a depolarization process:

- Initially, the membrane is polarized. On the outside of the membrane, ions with positive charge abound and on the inside, those with negative charge. This is maintained by the action of the sodium-potassium pump and is called the resting potential.

- When a stimulus arrives, the permeability increases for the sodium ions, which enter the cell, so that the polarity is reversed at that point, leaving more positive charge inside in that area. This alteration is called action potential.

- This depolarization leads to the redistribution of the ions, the nearby sodium channels open, and the adjacent area is also depolarized, and this, in turn, to that of the area that follows, as if they were the dominoes . In this way the nerve impulse travels like a wave along the axon.

- Once the nerve impulse has traveled the entire axon, in thousandths of a second, repolarization or restoration of the ion concentrations characteristic of the resting state occurs.

what is the acceleration produced by the resultant force acting on an object if the coefficient of friction acting between the b
LenKa [72]

The acceleration of the block is -0.98 m/s^2

Explanation:

The expression for the force of friction acting on the block is (assuming the surface is horizontal and flat):

F_f = -\mu mg

where

\mu is the coefficient of friction

m is the mass of the block

g is the acceleration of gravity

and where the negative sign means the direction of the force is opposite to that of the motion of the block

If this is the only force acting on the object, then this is also the resultant force, so we can rewrite Newton's second law as:

F=ma\\-\mu mg = ma

where

a is the acceleration of the block

Re-arranging the equation,

a=-\mu g

And so this is the expression for the acceleration of the block acted upon the force of friction.

In this problem, we have:

\mu=0.1

g=9.8 m/s^2

Solving,

a=-(0.1)(9.8)=-0.98 m/s^2

2. A student drives 7.8-km trip to school and averages a speed of
Alekssandra [29.7K]

Answer:

<em>The total time is: t=451.22 sec</em>

<em>The average speed is: V=34.57 m/s</em>

Explanation:

<u>Average speed</u>

The average speed is calculated by dividing the total distance traveled by an object (x) by the total time it took it to travel that distance (t).

\displaystyle V=\frac{x}{t}

Since the student makes the trip in two parts, we have to calculate the total distance and the total time.

We know the distance to school is 7.8 Km = 7,800 m. The student makes his way home over the same distance, thus the total distance is

x=2*7,800 m=15,600 m

The first trip to school was done at an average speed of v1=32.6 m/s. Knowing the distance and speed, we can calculate the time:

\displaystyle t1=\frac{x1}{v1}=\frac{7,800}{32.6}=239.26\ sec

The second trip back home was done at an average speed of v2=36.8 m/s. Let's calculate the second time:

\displaystyle t2=\frac{x2}{v2}=\frac{7,800}{36.8}=211.96\ sec

The total time is:

t=239.26\ sec+211.96\ sec=451.22\ sec

\boxed{t=451.22\ sec}

The average speed is:

\displaystyle V=\frac{15,600}{451.22}=34.57\ m/s

\boxed{\displaystyle V=34.57\ m/s}

What are the similarities and differences between meiosis and mitosis?
valentinak56 [21]

Answer: They both produce new cells, and start both with a single parent cell for similarities. For differences, Meiosis has only 8 stages in total, while mitosis is 4 stages in total. And for the Meiosis, it produces 4 haploid cells, and mitosis, only produces 2 haploid cells. These are the similarities and differences.

Hope this helped!

In a drag race, a car takes off from rest and covers 375 meters in 5 seconds. What is the
salantis [7]

Explanation:

s = ut + 1/2 a t^2

375 = 0 * 5 + 1/2 * a * (5)^2

375 = 1/2 * a * 25

a = 375*2/25

a = 15* 2

a = 30m/sec^2

v = u + at

v = 0 + 30 * 5

v = 150 m/sec

hope it helps you
