Are switches connected in series or parallel with the devices they control?
andrezito [222]

In some unusual applications of unusual components, I can think of unusual electric circuits where a switch may be connected in parallel with a device in order to control it.

But I'm sure this is not what's intended in a question on the high-school level.

Until you get in a situation with tricky applications in a tricky circuit, your switches will always be connect in series with the devices they control.

In 8.4 s a fisherman winds 2.9 m of fishing line onto a reel whose radius is 3.0 cm (assumed to be constant as an approximation)
alukav5142 [94]

Answer:

The angular speed of the reel is 11.33 rad/s

Explanation:

Given

The fisherman takes t = 8.4 s to wind distance x = 2.9 m into a circle radius of r = 3 cm = 0.03 m

Than the tangencial speed equals the change in the distance to the time

v = \frac{x}{t} = \frac{2.9 m}{8.4 s} = 0.34 \frac{m}{s}

Knowing the tangencial velocity is proportional to the radius r and the angular velocity

v = r*w

w = \frac{0.34 m/s}{0.03 m} = 11.33 \frac{rad}{s}

an electron is moving with a speed of 0.85c in a direction opposite to that of photon. calculate the relative velocity of the el
ololo11 [35]

Answer:

1.85c

Explanation:

a photon moves at c, the electron is moving at 0.85c, and since they are moving in opposing directions, the relative speed would be 1.85c

For each of the situations described below, the object considered is undergoing some changes. Among the possible changes you sho
velikii [3]

Answer: a. (Q), (T), (E)

              b. (Q), (T), (E), (W)

Explanation: Thermal Energy and Temperature are closely related: when the temperature rises causing atoms or molecules to move, thermal energy is produced. Thermal energy is the energy within the system.

Mechanical Work is the amount of energy transferred due to an applied force.

Chemical Energy is the energy contained in the bonds of chemical structures of the molecules released when a chemical reaction happens.

Given the explanations, let's analyse the situations:

a. For an ice cube to be melting, it has to be absorbing heat, which means its thermal energy is changing and, consequently, so does its temperature;

b. First, the gas inside the cylinder reaches a thermal equilibrium, which means its thermal energy and temperature changed. Since there were exchange of heat to reach the equilibrium, the gas absorbed or gave off heat. After the equilibrium, when the piston starts to be moved, the energy of the pressure is transferred to the gas, so mechanical work had been done.
