Two people are standing on a 1.75-m-long platform, one at each end. The platform floats parallel to the ground on a cushion of a

ir, like a hovercraft. The two people, the platform and a 5.76-kg ball are all initially at rest. One person throws the 5.76-kg ball to the other, who catches it. The ball travels nearly horizontally. Excluding the ball, the total mass of the platform and people is 184 kg. Because of the throw, this 184-kg mass recoils. How far does the platform move before coming to rest again?

Answer:

0.05312 m

Explanation:

Given:

Length of platform L = 1.75 m

mass of ball m_b = 5.76 kg

mass of (people + platform) m_p = 184 kg

Initial Velocity of ball V_i,b = 0

Initial Velocity of ball (people + platform) V_i,p = 0

Find:

How far does the platform recoils to rest

Solution:

Using the conservation of momentum on ust before and after the ball was thrown P_i = P_f :

Where, P_i = 0 (initially at rest)

P_f = m_p*V_f,p + m_b * V_f,b

0 = m_p*V_f,p + m_b * V_f,b

V_f,p = - (m_b /m_p) * V_f,b

V_f,p = - (5.76 / 184)*V_f,b

V_f,p = - 0.0313*V_f,b ....1

The time the ball is in air:

t = L / (V_f,b - V_f,p) ...2

The distance that the platform moves d:

d = V_f,p *t ....3

Substitute 2 into 3

d = V_f,p*L /(V_f,b - V_f,p) .... 4

Solve 1 and 4 simultaneously :

d = - m_b*L / (m_b + m_p)

d = - 5.76*1.75 / (5.76 + 184)

d = -0.05312 m

The platform moves 0.05312 m to the opposite to which the ball is thrown.

 • Dimensional Analysis
 • Reading the Periodic Table of Elements

Explanation:

Step 1: Define

6.53 mol Mn

Step 2: Find conversion

1 mol Mn = 54.94 g Mn

Step 3: Dimensional Analysis

6.53 \hspace{3} mol \hspace{3} Mn(\frac{54.94 \hspace{3} g \hspace{3} Mn}{1 \hspace{3} mol \hspace{3} Mn} ) = 358.758 g Mn

Step 4: Simplify

We are given 3 sig figs.

Why it is advise to clean the ends of connecting wires before connecting them?
Svetradugi [14.3K]
If dirt and grease were good conductors of electrical current, then we could make wire
out of dirt and grease instead of expensive copper. Sadly, they're not. So a coating of
dirt and grease on the wire can have a substantial impact on the connection, and can
even block the flow of current across the connection completely. Moreover, in the case
where the ends of the wires are to be soldered, solder does not adhere to dirty wire.

Thank you for posting your question here at brainly. Feel free to ask more questions.
The best and most correct answer among the choices provided by the question is B.-2.71 V.
Mg2+(aq) + 2e- -> Mg(s) E=-2.37 V

Cu2+(aq) + 2e- -> Cu(s) E =+ 0.34 V

Since Cu is acting as the anode, the equation needs to be reversed.

Cu(s) -> Cu2+(aq) + 2e- E =- 0.34 V

Ecell= -2.37 V+ (- 0.34 V) = -2.71 V

At a distance r from a charge e on a particle of mass m the electric field value is
mel-nik [20]

At a distance r from a charge e on a particle of mass m the electric field value is 8.9876 × 10⁹ N·m²/C². Divide the magnitude of the charge by the square of the distance of the charge from the point. Multiply the value from step 1 with Coulomb's constant.

what is magnitude ?

Magnitude can be defined as the maximum extent of size and the direction of an object.

It is used as a common factor in vector and scalar quantities, as we know scalar quantities are those quantities that have magnitude only and vector quantities are those quantities have both magnitude and direction.

There are different ways where magnitude is used Magnitude of earthquake, charge on an electron, force, displacement, Magnitude of gravitational force
