Describe the contributions made by Oparin, Haldane, Miller, and Urey toward understanding the origin of organic molecules.
balu736 [363]

Answer:

The theory of Oparin and Haldane was based on the fact that the primitive atmosphere was very different from the current atmosphere, since energy was abundant on the young planet. Both proposed that the appearance of life was preceded by a period they called "chemical evolution."

On the other hand, Miller Urey made an experiment where it was shown that some organic components were formed spontaneously if they were simulating the conditions of the Earth's early atmosphere.

Explanation:

The first hypotheses about the origin of life on Earth were suggested by Oparin and Haldane, who worked independently. Oparin presented his ideas on the origin of life in the year of 1922 by publishing them in the year of 1924. For his part, Haldane published similar ideas in 1929, however, Haldane gave priority to Oparin in the formulation of the theory.

Oparin based his hypotheses using a model he called "coacervates", which are colloidal systems formed by macromolecules that formed in aqueous media and would have evolved to form cells with membranes. According to Oparin, living beings modified the primitive atmosphere and this would have prevented, the formation of life from inorganic substances.

The Miller and Urey experiments helped reinforce the theory that the first way of life was created spontaneously through chemical reactions. However, there are still many scientists who are not convinced.

When a strong base reacts with an acid what is always produced?
Y_Kistochka [10]
This really depends. When a strong base reacts with a strong acid, a neutralization reaction occurs, making H2O and neutralizing the pH of the substance. However, when a strong base reacts with a normal acid, nothing is always produced, and the solution will be slightly less basic.

1)
zaharov [31]

Answer:

B. what happens when iron rusts in the presence of water

Explanation:

Chemistry is a branch of science involving the composition and changes of matter. In other words, a chemist, who is a trained specialist in the science of chemistry, seeks to answer questions related to properties of matter.

In this question, a chemist is most likely to study "what happens when iron rusts in the presence of water" because it involves a change in the chemical properties of a substance (iron) i.e. a chemical change. However, what happens when ice melts to liquid water is a physical change.

A 30ml sample of a liquid has a mass of 50 grams. What is the density of the liquid?
mash [69]

Answer:

Density = 1.67 g/mL

Explanation:

The density of a substance can be found by using the formula

Density = \frac{mass}{volume}

From the question

mass = 50 g

volume = 30 mL

Substitute the values into the above formula and solve for the density

That's

Density = \frac{50}{30} \\ = \frac{5}{3} \\ = 1.66666...

Wr have the final answer as

Density = 1.67 g/mL

Hope this helps you

Show All Work For Brainliest
sattari [20]

Answer:

1) 16.8 L CO2

2) 36.96 L NH3

3) 9.88 L CO2

4) 56.99 L H2O

Explanation:

How many liters of carbon dioxide gas will be produced when 75.0 g of calcium carbonate decomposes to form calcium oxide when at STP?

CaCO3 → CaO + CO2

Moles calcium carbonate = 75.0 grams / 100.09 g/mol

Moles calcium carbonate = 0.750 moles

For 1 mol CaCO3 we'll have 1 mol CaO and 1 mol CO2

For 0.750 moles CaCO3 we'll have 0.750 moles CO2

1 mol = 22.4 L

0.750 moles CO2 = 0.750 *22.4 L = 16.8 L CO2

2. Hydrogen gas reacts with 23.1 g of nitrogen gas to produce ammonia (NH3). What volume of ammonia will be produced at STP?

3H2 + N2 → 2NH3

Moles N2 = 23.1 grams / 28.0 g/mol

Moles N2 = 0.825 moles

For 3 moles H2 we need 1 mol N2 to produce 2 moles NH3

For 0.825 moles N2 we'll have 2*0.825 = 1.65 moles NH3

1 mol = 22.4 L

1.65 mol = 1.65 * 22.4 L = 36.96 L NH3

3. Iron (III) oxide reacts with carbon monoxide to form iron and carbon dioxide. How many liters of carbon dioxide will be produced from 23.5 g of iron (III) oxide when at STP?

Fe2O3 + 3CO → 2Fe + 3CO2

Moles Fe2O3 = 23.5 grams / 159.69 g/mol

Moles Fe2O3 = 0.147 moles

For 1 mol Fe2O3 we need 3 moles CO to produce 2 moles Fe and 3 moles CO2

For 0.147 moles Fe2O3 we'll have 3*0.147 = 0.441 moles CO2

1 mol = 22.4 L

0.441 moles = 22.4 * 0.441 = 9.88 L CO2

4.How many liters of water vapor would be produced in the combustion of 12.5L of ethane, C2H6 at STP?

2C2H6 + 7O2 →4CO2 + 6H2O

22.4 L = 1 mol

12.5 L = 0.848 moles C2H6

For 2 moles C2H6 we need 7 moles O2 to produce 4 moles CO2 and 6 moles H2O

For 0.848 moles C2H6 we'll have 3*0.848 = 2.544 moles H2O

1 mol = 22.4 L

2.544 moles = 22.4 L * 2.544 = 56.99 L H2O
