<span>a. Calculate the mass is slugs and the weight in poundals of a 175 lbm man (i) on earth and (ii) on the moon, where the acceleration of gravity is one-sixth of its value on earth.

The weight is the attraction force exerted by the earth (or moon) on the body

This force is calculated by the second Law of Newton: F = m*a = m*g = weight.

i) In the Earth:

m = 175 lbm
g = 32.17 ft/s^2

=> Weight = 175 lbm * 32.17 ft/s^2 = 5,629.75 poundal

ii) g = 1/6 * 32.17 ft/s^2 = 5.36 ft/s^2

=> Weight = 175 lbm * 5.36 ft/s^2 = 938 poundal

b. A force of 355 poundals is exerted on a 25.0-slug object. At what rate (m/s2) does the object accelerate?

Second Law of Newton: F = m*a => a = F/m

a = 355 poundal / 25.0 slug = 14.2 ft/s^2

Conversion to m/s^2:

14.2 ft/s^2 * [0.3048 m/ft] =  4.33 m/s^2

1. Lanthanides and actinides are kept separately in the modern periodic table. Why?
AleksAgata [21]

Answer:

1.. Lanthanides and actinides are kept separately in the modern periodic table Why?

Lanthanides and actinides are kept separately in the modern periodic table because of following reason:

  • If they are placed in the body of the periodic table, the periodic table will become extremely long and hard to recognize
  • more scientific and technical reason why they chose to keep the lanthanides and actinides away from the rest of the periodic table was to help in the grouping of elements in blocks

Explanation:

2. Differentiate between long period and short period in any two points.

Long period:

  • The 4th and 5th periods of the periodic table are called long periods.
  • The long periods coontain 18 elements in them

short period:

  • The 2nd and 3rd periods of the periodic table are called short periods.
  • The short periods contain 8 elements in them

How many grams are there in 6.21 moles of CaCl2? #1 I am not sure if it's right and please explain .
beks73 [17]
Rearrange the equation n=M÷Mr. Where n = the number of moles. M= the mass in grams. And Mr = the molecular mass of the substance.
Since you are working out mass use the equation M= n x Mr. So you have
6.21 × 111 (molecular mass of CaCl2).
This will give you the answer 689.31 grams which would be your final answer.

Answer:

Sound waves are faster than light waves when traveling through the air.

(This statement is NOT true)

or

Sound waves and electromagnetic waves are both needed to talk on a cell phone

Explanation:

Sound waves need a medium to travel through, but light does not.

Also, the statement "Sound waves and electromagnetic waves are both needed to talk on a cell phone" might also be NOT true, since, as far as I know, cellphone calls need radio and sound waves, not electromagnetic waves.

The final solution had a volume of 1.0L and a molarity of 0.925. How many moles of Nickel (II) chloride were present in the solu
Llana [10]

Answer:

0.925 moles of Nickel (II) chloride

Explanation:

Now, we know that the number of moles in a solution is given by;

n=CV

n= number of moles

C= molar concentration of solution = 0.925 M

V= volume of solution= 1.0 L

So having known all the parameters except the unknown (number of moles of Nickel (II) chloride) we can now proceed to find the unknown.

n= 0.925M ×1.0L

n= 0.925 moles of Nickel (II) chloride
