Why is the stability of a compound considered a chemical property?
Tcecarenko [31]
Chemical property is the ability of a substance to react with other substances or to transform into other substances. The stability of a compound indicates how much it "prefers" to remain as such or to get transformed. Then the stability is a chemical property.

Using the symbol below/above determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in the element.
malfutka [58]
Hi,
The correct answer is C.
Protons= 50 (because the atomic number of Sn is 50) —> The atomic number always represent the number of protons

Neutrons= 68 (if you want to find the number of neutrons, you need to do: atomic mass (118 in this case) - your number of protons (50)

Electrons= 46 (50 - 4)

Why is Sodium chloride a compound but not a molecule? I thought all the compounds are molecule but not all molecules are compoun
Firdavs [7]
Molecule is the general term used to describe any atoms that are connected by chemical bonds. Every combination of atoms is a molecule. A compound is a molecule made of atoms from different elements.
Well, if a molecule is considered to be a discrete small unit made up of atoms joined together, then NaCl, and any other ionic solid is not really a molecule. In NaCl we have a repetitive crystal structure in which each Na+ ion is surrounded by Cl- ions, and vice-versa, for as far as the crystal extends. There really isn't such a thing as an NaCl molecule.
