First, "graph" means graph of the given function f(x).  It is not necessary to include the graph with the question because at this level, either the user can "see" the graph mentally, or use technology (calculator or software) to graph the function.

(a) The Leading coefficient test for polynomial functions
The test is as follows.  The sign of the leading coefficient (LC, coefficient of the highest power of the variable) together with the degree (odd or even)  of the polynomial function tells us the end behaviour of the function according to the following table:

LC/degree     Even       Odd
Positive        +inf/+inf    -inf/+inf
Negative       -inf/-inf     +inf/-inf

It can be easily memorized by comparing with a line or a parabola
y=x (positive leading coefficient, odd degree)  goes from -inf to +inf
y=x^2 (positive leading coefficient, even degree)  goes from +inf to +inf.
Any negative leading coefficient will just invert the signs.

For the given polynomial function
f(x) = x^2(x+2) = x^3+x^2
The leading coefficient is +1 (positive), and degree is three (odd)
So it behaves the same way as a straight line y=x, so the end behviours are
{-inf, +inf}  as x-> {-inf, +inf} respectively.

(b) x-intercepts
Since f(x)=x^2(x+2), the x-intercepts are x=0 (multiplicity 2) and x=-2.
=>
From the left, graph is increasing and crosses x=-2 once from negative to positive, after which graph is decreasing.  At x=0, because of the root with multiplicity 2, graph touches the origin (0,0) and turns back towards +inf.

(c) the y-intercept
from the polynomial f(x)=x^2(x+2)=x^3+x^2 = x^3+x^2+0,
we see that the y-intercept =0 because the "initial value" or the constant term is zero.

1.You can recognize exponential and linear function by their graph.Linear functions are straights while exponential functions are curved lines.You can also recognize them by the change in your.If the same number is being added to y,then the function has a constant change and is linear.3:-An example of a exponential function is the growth of bacteria and A common equation,y=mx+b y=mx+b,(namely the slope-intercept form,which we will learn more about later)is a example of a linear function.2:-For constant increments in x,a linear growth would increase by a constant difference,and an experimental growth would increase by a constant ratio.

Write an<br> equation of a line that passes through each pair of points.<br> (-2,6) (0,0)
arlik [135]
Answer: y= -3x

(there is no y-intercept in the points you listed so if you can find one on a picture of your question, do so. but since i do not see a given y-intercept, i assume it is 0)

To find the slope, use the two points given.

1st: subtract the y-values. 0-6= -6.

2nd: subtract the x-values. 0-(-2)= 2

3rd: you have -6/2.

4th: simplify to get a slope of -3.

Write the equation 9y = 12x + 0.2 in standard form. Identify A, B, and C.
uysha [10]

Answer:

A = -12, B = 9 and C = .2

Step-by-step explanation:

So it just looks like we need to use algebra to move everything around to get it in the form Ax + By = C

So, let's start with 9y = 12x + 0.2.  From standard form we have all terms wth variables on one side, so let's do that.  the right sie has both a variable term and non variable term, so let's get rid of the variable term.  The variable term is 12x, so to get rid of it you subtract 12x from both sides.

9y = 12x + 0.2

9y - 12x = 0.2

To make it exactly in standard form just rarrnge.

-12x + 9y = 0.2

So now we have A = -12, B = 9 and C = .2
