Chemistry

Answer: Yes, magnesium will replace hydrogen because magnesium is higher on the activity series list.

Explanation:

A single replacement reaction is one in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its salt solution.

A general single displacement reaction can be represented as :

X+YZ\rightarrow XZ+Y

Mg+2HCl\rightarrow MgCl_2+H_2

When magnesium is added to hydrochloric acid, magnesium being more reactive than hydrogen displaces hydrogen atom its salt solution and lead to formation of magnesium chloride and hydrogen gas.

Which are isotopes? an atom that has an atomic number of 20 and a mass number of 42 is an isotope of an atom that has?
lys-0071 [83]
Isotopes have same atomic number or same number of protons, but different number of neutrons and mass number.

If they have same atomic number or same number of protons as the original one they are isotopes.

In a titration, 25.0 mL of a 0.40 M NaOH solution is used to neutralize 10.0 mL of HCl. Calculate the molarity of the acid.
laiz [17]

The molarity of the HCl acid will be 0.001 M.

What is Neutralization ?

A neutralization reaction is when an acid and a base react to form water and a salt and involves the combination of H⁺ ions and OH⁻ ions to generate water.

This is the neutralization of a strong acid (HCl) and a strong base (NaOH), which is ruled by this equation :

HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) → NaCl (aq) + H₂O (l)

Mole Ratio : 1 mol HCl : 1 mol NaOH

Formula used ;

Molarity = number of moles / Volume (in liters)

Solve for n ;

n = M × V

Substitute values and compute ;

n = 0.40 M × 0.025 liter = 0.01 moles NaOH.

As the molar ratio is NaOH : HCl

Therefore, there will be same number mole for the HCl

Now, Molarity of HCl Solution ;

Molarity = n / volume

Molarity = 0.01 / 10

             =  0.001 M HCl

Hence, The molarity of the HCl acid will be 0.001 M.
