Determine the change in entropy for 2.7 moles of an ideal gas originally placed in a container with a volume of 4.0 L when the c
olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

The value of entropy change for the process dS = 0.009 \frac{KJ}{K}

Explanation:

Mass of the ideal gas = 0.0027 kilo mol

Initial volume V_{1} = 4 L

Final volume V_{2} = 6 L

Gas constant for this ideal gas ( R ) = R_{u}  M

Where R_{u} = Universal gas constant = 8.314 \frac{KJ}{Kmol K}

⇒ Gas constant R = 8.314 × 0.0027 = 0.0224 \frac{KJ}{K}

Entropy change at constant temperature is given by,

dS = R  log _{e} \frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}

Put all the values in above formula we get,

dS = 0.0224  log _{e} [\frac{6}{4}]

dS = 0.009 \frac{KJ}{K}

This is the value of entropy change for the process.

What is the concentration of the hydroxide ion? Given that the concentration of the hydronium ion is 2.3 X 10^-7 M
professor190 [17]

Answer:

4.35 * 10^-8 M

Explanation:

Since the concentration of the hydronium ion= 2.3 X 10^-7 M

And we know that;

[H3O^+] [OH^-] = 1 * 10^-14

[H3O^+]  = concentration of the hydronium ion

[OH^-] = concentration of the hydroxide ion

So;

[OH^-] =1 * 10^-14/[ H3O^+]

But [H3O^+] = 2.3 X 10^-7 M

[OH^-] = 1 * 10^-14/2.3 X 10^-7

[OH^-] = 4.35 * 10^-8 M

Mercury (Hg) poisoning is a debilitating disease that is often fatal. In the human body, mercury reacts with essential enzymes l
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

6 x 10⁵ kg Hg

Explanation:

The mass of mercury in the entire lake is found by multiplying the concentration of the mercury by the volume of the lake.

The volume of the lake is calculated in cubic feet:

V = (SA)x(depth) = (100mi²)(5280ft/mi)² x (20ft) = 5.57568 x 10¹⁰ ft³

Cubic feet are then converted to mL (1cm³=1mL)

(5.57568 x 10¹⁰ ft³) x (12in/ft)³ x (2.54cm/in)³ = 1.578856752 x 10¹⁵ mL

The mass of mercury is then found:

m = CV = (0.4μg/mL)(1g/10⁶μg)(1kg/1000g) x (1.578856752 x 10¹⁵ mL) = 6 x 10⁵ kg Hg

What is the function of the digestive system? why is it important to the body?
tangare [24]

The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract—also called the GI tract or digestive tract—and the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus. The hollow organs that make up the GI tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system.

The small intestine has three parts. The first part is called the duodenum. The jejunum is in the middle and the ileum is at the end. The large intestine includes the appendix, cecum, colon, and rectum. The appendix is a finger-shaped pouch attached to the cecum. The cecum is the first part of the large intestine. The colon is next. The rectum is the end of the large intestine.

Digestion is important because your body needs nutrients from food and drink to work properly and stay healthy. Proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins NIH external link, minerals NIH external link, and water are nutrients. Your digestive system breaks nutrients into parts small enough for your body to absorb and use for energy, growth, and cell repair.

  • Proteins break into amino acids
  • Fats break into fatty acids and glycerol
  • Carbohydrates break into simple sugars

Each part of your digestive system helps to move food and liquid through your GI tract, break food and liquid into smaller parts, or both. Once foods are broken into small enough parts, your body can absorb and move the nutrients to where they are needed. Your large intestine absorbs water, and the waste products of digestion become stool. Nerves and hormones help control the digestive process.
