When 0. 25 g of the organic compound naphthalene are burned in a bomb calorimeter, the temperature of the water in the calorimet

er increases from 24. 00°C to 26. 43 °C. The calorimeter's heat capacity is 4. 13 kJ/°C. How much heat (q_{rxn}) in kilojoules is released by the combustion of the naphthalene?.

-2.5089 kJ is the amount of heat is released by the combustion of the naphthalene.

How we calculate the released heat?

Released amount of heat is calculated by using the below formula:

Q = -mcΔT, where

m = mass of naphthalene = 0.25g

c = specific heat of calorimeter = 4.13 kJ/°C

ΔT = change in temperature = 26.43°C - 24°C = 2.43°C

Putting all these values in the above equation, we get

Q = - (0.25 × 4.13 × 2.43) = - 2.5089 kJ

Hence, - 2.5089 kJ heat is released.

Which of the following best describes a non metal
Andre45 [30]

Answer:

-a nonmetal is a substance that lacks the characteristics of a metal.

-Seventeen elements are generally classified as nonmetals: most are gases (hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon, chlorine, argon, krypton, xenon and radon); one is a liquid (bromine); and a few are solids (carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, selenium, and iodine).

A galvanic cell consists of one half-cell that contains Ag(s) and Ag+(aq), and one half-cell that contains Cu(s) and Cu2+(aq). W
Agata [3.3K]

Answer : The 'Ag' is produced at the cathode electrode and 'Cu' is produced at anode electrode under standard conditions.

Explanation :

Galvanic cell : It is defined as a device which is used for the conversion of the chemical energy produces in a redox reaction into the electrical energy. It is also known as the voltaic cell or electrochemical cell.

In the galvanic cell, the oxidation occurs at an anode which is a negative electrode and the reduction occurs at the cathode which is a positive electrode.

We are taking the value of standard reduction potential form the standard table.

E^0_{[Ag^{+}/Ag]}=+0.80V

E^0_{[Cu^{2+}/Cu]}=+0.34V

In this cell, the component that has lower standard reduction potential gets oxidized and that is added to the anode electrode. The second forms the cathode electrode.

The balanced two-half reactions will be,

Oxidation half reaction (Anode) : Cu(s)\rightarrow Cu^{2+}(aq)+2e^-

Reduction half reaction (Cathode) : Ag^{+}(aq)+e^-\rightarrow Ag(s)

Thus the overall reaction will be,

Cu(s)+2Ag^{+}(aq)\rightarrow Cu^{2+}(aq)+2Ag(s)

From this we conclude that, 'Ag' is produced at the cathode electrode and 'Cu' is produced at anode electrode under standard conditions.

Hence, the 'Ag' is produced at the cathode electrode and 'Cu' is produced at anode electrode under standard conditions.

Which example indicates that a chemical change has occurred? *
andrezito [222]

Answer:

A. When two aqueous solutions are mixed, a precipitate is formed.

Explanation:

The precipitate (a solid substance that falls from the liquid) is the result of a chemical reaction taking place between the liquids.

The other three answer choices are indicative of physical changes (temperature change, phase change, color change).
