There are also the organic oils. They can be derived from animal or plant sources. They can be used to replace fossil fuels in some applications. This is because the inventor originally designed the engine based on vegetable oil, and later they refined petroleum to produce a similar oil.

AnnyKZ [126]

Caffeine is more soluble in dichloromethane and the both are separated by evaporating the solvent.

Caffeine is an organic plant material which is more soluble in non-polar solvents than in polar solvents. As such, caffeine is more soluble in dichloromethane than in pure water.

In order to carry out a liquid-liquid exaction of dichloromethane from a commercial teabag, the dichloromethane is mixed with water. The caffeine is found to be more soluble in the organic dichloromethane layer than in water.

The two solvents can now be separated using a separating funnel and the solution is evaporated to obtain the caffeine.

If there were an element above fluorine in the periodic table what phase would you expect it to be in (at room temp)?
AysviL [449]

If there were an element above fluorine, its state would be a gas. This is because fluorine is located in the non-metal section of the periodic table which can all be found as a gas at room temperature.
