A ball is launched horizontally at 150 m/s from a cliff. What is its vertical speed after 3 seconds?
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

v_f = 30 m/s

Explanation:

v_f = v_I + a*t

v_f = 0m/s + (9.81m/s²)*(3s)

v_f = 29.43m/s

v_f = 30 m/s

Since the object is being launched horizontally off the cliff the only vertical force acting on the ball is gravity which is an acceleration of 9.81m/s². So we have all the flowing information to use the the kinematic equation: v_f = v_I + a*t.

In 1909, galileo first looked at the milky way using very powerful binoculars
anastassius [24]
Galileo first studied the Milky Way through his telescope in January, 1610 not 1909. Until his observations, the Milky Way was thought to be a band of wispy whitish clouds passing through the heavens. To Galileo's amazement, instead of seeing just a nebula (the Greek work for cloud) the milky wisps resolved into innumerable tiny stars, so crowded together that, without the aid of a telescope, the light from those stars simply blended together.

A closed system contains 30g of gas. How much heat(in joules) is added to or rejected by the system to produce 5000 N-m of work
finlep [7]

Answer : The heat rejected by the system is 1000 J

Explanation :

As per first law of thermodynamic,

q=\Delta U+w

where,

\Delta U = internal energy of the system

q = heat added or rejected by the system

w = work done of the system

First we have to determine the internal energy for 30 grams of gas.

As, 1 gram of gas has internal energy = 200 J

So, 30 grams of gas has internal energy = 200 × 30 = 6000 J

Now we have to determine the heat of the system.

q=\Delta U+w

\Delta = -6000 J

w = 5000 N.m = 5000 J

Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get:

q=-6000J+5000J

q=-1000J

The negative sign indicate that the heat rejected by the system.

Hence, the heat rejected by the system is 1000 J
