Five kg of water is contained in a piston–cylinder assembly, initially at 5 bar and 360°C. The water is slowly heated at constan

t pressure to a final state. The heat transfer for the process is 2660 kJ and kinetic and potential energy effects are negligible. Determine the final volume, in m3, and the work for the process, in kJ.

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass = 5kg of water

Initial pressure P•i = 5bar = 500 kPa

Pressure is constant P = 5bar

Initial temperature T•i = 360°C

Heat transferred Q = 2660 KJ

Kinetic and potential energy are negligible

a. Final volume

The initial enthalpy and specific volume can be determine from the steam table.

h•1 = 3188.83 KJ/kg

v•1 = 0.5796 m³/kg.

So, we can calculate the final enthalpy by using

Q = m(h2—h•1)

2660 = 5 (h2—3188.83)

2660/5 = h2—3188.83

h2 — 3188.83 = 532

h2 = 520 + 3188.83

h2 = 3720.83 KJ/kg.

Using steam table, we can determine the final temperature and final specific volume

T•f = 608°C

v•f = 0.8115 m³/kg

Then, specific volume = volume /mass

v•f = v2/m

v2 = vf × m

v2 = 0.8115 × 5

v2 = 4.0575m³

b. Workdone?

W = m•P•(vf —vi)

W = 5 × 500(0.8115 — 0.5796)

W = 579.75 KJ

A bowling ball is 21.6 cm in diameter. What is the angular speed of these ball whenit is moving at 3.0 m/s?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

Angular speed = 27.78 rad/s (Approx)

Explanation:

Given:

Diameter = 21.6 cm

Speed = 3 m/s

Find:

Angular speed

Computation:

Radius = 21.6 / 2 = 10.8 cm = 0.108 m

Angular speed = v / r

Angular speed = 3 / 0.108

Angular speed = 27.78 rad/s (Approx)

A very small source of light that radiates uniformly in all directions produces an electric field with an amplitude of ܧ ௠at a distance R from the source. What is the amplitude of the magnetic field at a point 2R from the source?

If the distance from the source is doubled. The amplitude of the magnetic field is smaller 4 times.

A constant magnetic field passes through a single rectangular loop whose dimensions are 0.35 m × 0.55 m. The magnetic field has
Pani-rosa [81]

Answer:

Part a)

EMF = 0.38 V

Part b)

\frac{dA}{dt} = 0.43 m^2/s

Explanation:

Part a)

Initial value of magnetic flux is given as

\phi_1 = BAcos\theta

\phi_1 = (2.1)(0.35 \times 0.55) cos65

so we have

\phi_1 = 0.17 Wb

Final flux through the loop is given as

\phi_2 = 0

now EMF is given as

EMF = \frac{\phi_1 - \phi_2}{\Delta t}

EMF = \frac{0.17 - 0}{0.45}

EMF = 0.38 V

Part b)

If magnetic field is constant while Area is changing

So EMF is given as

E = Bcos65 \times \frac{dA}{dt}

0.38 = 2.1 cos65(\frac{dA}{dt})

\frac{dA}{dt} = 0.43 m^2/s
