When magnesium-28 undergoes beta decay, what is the identity and mass number of the nucleus formed?

Answer:

Aluminium-28

Explanation:

The decay can be with particles alfa (α), beta (β) or gamma radiation (γ). The particle alfa has mass 4 and charge +2, so when the decay occurs by it, the atom will lose two protons and 4 mass unity. The radiation gamma has no mass or charge.

The beta particle has no mass, and charge -1. When this phenomenon happens, a neutron decomposes into a proton, an electron, and an antineutrino(which has no mass or charge). The electron is the beta particle. So the mass of the atom continues the same (because of the proton gained), and it gains a proton, so its atomic number changes for +1.

The magnesium-28 beta decay occurs by:

²⁸Mg₁₂ ⇒ ⁰β₋₁ + ²⁸Al₁₃

Beta decay increases the atomic number by 1, and does not change the mass number. 28Mg12 → 0e-1 + 28Al13

Chlorine has seven electrons in its valence shell. It accepts an electron to complete its octet and becomes a chlorine ion (Cl-)
KIM [24]
The correct answer here is B - when chlorine accepts an electron to complete its octet and becomes a chlorion ion it becomes an Anion. An anion is a negatively charged ion. Chloride ions are an important electrolyte within the body.

Using the following reaction:
Romashka-Z-Leto [24]

Answer:

Mn is the oxidizing agent.

N is the reducing agent.

Explanation:

Hello!

In this case, according to the undergoing chemical reaction, it is seen that the manganese in KMnO4 has an oxidation state of 7+, in MnSO4 of 2+ and nitrogen in KNO2 is 3+ and in KNO3 is 5+; thus we have the following half-reactions:

Mn^{7+}+5e^-\rightarrow Mn^{2+}\\\\N^{3+}\rightarrow N^{5+}+2e^-

Thus, since manganese is undergoing a decrease in the oxidation state, we infer it is the oxidizing agent whereas nitrogen, undergoing an increase in the oxidation state is the reducing agent.

Best regards!
