Practice Problems Exercise 8.6 Classify each of the following reactions in as many ways as possible.4N H3 (g) 5 O2 (g) n 4NO(g)
nikklg [1K]

Explanation :

(a) 4NH_3(g)+5O_2(g)\rightarrow 4NO(g)+6H_2O(g)

This reaction is combustion reaction in which an oxygen react with a molecule to give its corresponding oxides ans water molecule.

(b) S_8(s)+8O_2(g)\rightarrow 8SO_2(g)

This reaction is a redox reaction or oxidation-reduction reaction in which sulfur get oxidized and oxygen get reduced.

(c) 2Al(s)+3Cl_2(g)\rightarrow 2AlCl_3(s)

This reaction is a combination reaction in which the two reactants molecule combine to form a large molecule or product.

(d) 2AlN\rightarrow 2Al(s)+N_2(g)

This reaction is a decomposition reaction in which a large molecule or reactant decomposes to give two or more molecule or products.

(e) BaCl_2(aq)+Na_2SO_4(aq)\rightarrow BaSO_4(s)+2NaCl(aq)

This reaction is a double displacement reaction in which the cation of two reactants molecule exchange their places to give two different products.

(f) 2Cs(s)+Br_2(l)\rightarrow 2CsBr(s)

This reaction is a combination reaction in which the two reactants combine to form a large molecule or product.

(g) KOH(aq)+HCl(aq)\rightarrow H_2O(l)+KCl(aq)

This reaction is a double displacement reaction in which the cation of two reactants molecule exchange their places to give two different products.

(h) 2C_2H_2(g)+5O_2(g)\rightarrow 4CO_2(g)+2H_2O(l)

This reaction is combustion reaction in which a hydrocarbon react with an oxygen to give carbon dioxide and water as a products.

Calculate the number of C, H, and O atoms in 1.50 g of glucose, a sugar
DIA [1.3K]
Chemical formula of the glucose: C₆H₁₂O₆

We calculate the molar mass:
atomic mass (C)=12 u
atomic mass (H)=1 u
atomic mass (O)=16 u

atomic weight (C₆H₁₂O₆)=6(12 u)+12(1u)+6(16 u)=72 u+12u+96 u=180 u.
Therefore : 1 mol of glucose will be 180 g
The molar mass would be: 180 g/ mol

2) we calculate the number of moles of 1.5 g.
180 g---------------------1 mol
1.5 g----------------------  x

x=(1.5 g * 1 mol) / 180 g≈8.33*10⁻³ moles

we knows that:
1 mol = 6.022 * 10²³ particles (atoms or molecules)

3)We calculate the number of molecules:

Therefore:
1 mol-----------------------6.022*10²³ molecules of glucose
8.33*10⁻³ moles--------        x

x=(8.33*10⁻³ moles * 6.022*10²³ molecules)/1 mol≈5.0183*10²¹ molecules.

4)We calculate the number of C, H and O atoms:
A molecule of glucose have 6 atoms of C, 12 atoms of H, and 6 atoms of O,
number of atoms of C=(6 atoms/1 molecule)(5.0183*10²¹molecules)≈
3.011*10²²

number of atoms of H=(12 atoms/1 molecule)(5.0183*10²¹ molecules)≈
6.022*10²² .

number of atoms of O=(6 atoms/1 molecule)(5.0183*10²¹ molecules)≈
3.011*10²²

Answer: we have 3.011*10²² atoms of C, 6.022*10²² atoms of H, and 3.011*10²² atoms of O.

As a pilot is flying in level flight at 9,500 ft, the altimeter in the instrument panel is set to a pressure of 29.48 mm of Hg.
bearhunter [10]

Answer:

from the ideal gas law, P2 /P1 = T2 /T1 for the same volume and quantity of gas. P2 = (758 mmHg) (45 +273 K) / (15 +273K) = 837 mmHg.

Express the following numbers as decimals: (a) 1.52 x 10^-2, (b) 7.78 x 10^-8, (c) 1 x 10^-6, (d) 1.6001 x 10^3.
Alchen [17]

Answer :

(a) 0.0152

(b) 0.0000000778

(c) 0.000001

(d) 1600.1

Explanation :

Scientific notation : It is the representation of expressing the numbers that are too big or too small and are represented in the decimal form with one digit before the decimal point times 10 raise to the power.

For example :

5000 is written as 5.0\times 10^3

889.9 is written as 8.899\times 10^{-2}

In this examples, 5000 and 889.9 are written in the standard notation and 5.0\times 10^3  and 8.899\times 10^{-2}  are written in the scientific notation.

(a) 1.52\times 10^{-2}

The standard notation is, 0.0152

(b) 7.78\times 10^{-8}

The standard notation is, 0.0000000778

(c) 1\times 10^{-6}

The standard notation is, 0.000001

(d) 1.6001\times 10^{3}

The standard notation is, 1600.1
