Answer:28.605

Explanation:First, the molar mass of of SrCO3, BaCO3 and CO2 has to be calculated, (using the molar mass of each element Sr = 87.62, Ba = 137.327, C=12.011, O= 16.00)

The molar masses are;

SrCO3 = 87.62 + 12.011 + (3*16) = 147.631g/mol

BaCO3 = 79.904 + 12.011 + (3*16) = 197.34 g/mol

CO2 = 12.011 + (2*16) = 44.011 g/mol

To obtain one of the equations to solve the problem;

The sample is made of SrCO3 and BaCO3 and has a mass of 0.846 g. Representing the mass of SrCO3 as ma and that of BaCO3 as mb. The first equation can be written as:

ma + mb = 0.846g                 (1)

To obtain another equation in order to be able to determine the different percentages of the compounds (SrCO3 and BaCO3) that make of the sample, a relationship can be obtained by determining the relationship between the number of moles of CO2 formed as the mass of the SrCO3 and BaCO3;

The number of moles of CO2 formed = (mass of CO2)/(molar mass) =0.234/44.011 =0.00532moles

CO2 contains 1 mole of carbon (C) so therefore 0.00532 moles of CO2 contains 0.00532 moles of C

The sample produced 0.00532 moles of CO2, therefore the number of moles SrCO3 and BaCO3 that produced this amount can be calculated using the formula;

= (mass )/(molar mass)

No of moles of SrCO3 and BaCO3 will be ma/147.631 and mb/197.34 moles respectively

The total amount of C molecules produced by SrCO3 and BaCO3 will be 0.00532 moles of C

The second equation can be written as

ma/147.631 + mb/197.34= 0.00532          (2)

Solving Equation (1) and (2) simultaneously;

ma = 0.604g; mb = 0.242g

Therefore the percentage of BaCO3   = (mass of BaCO3 )/(mass of sample )*100

                                                         = 0.242/(0.846 )*100

                                                         = 28.605%

How many grams of NH3 can be dissolved in 50 grams of water at 50oC?
weqwewe [10]

15 grams of  NH3 can be dissolved

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Given

50 grams of water at 50°C

Required

mass of NH3

Solution

Solubility is the maximum amount of a substance that can dissolve in some solvents. Factors that affect solubility

  • 1. Temperature:
  • 2. Surface area:
  • 3. Solvent type:
  • 4. Stirring process:

We can use solubility chart (attached) to determine the solubility of NH3 at 50°C

From the graph, we can see that the solubility of NH3 in 100 g of water at 50 C is 30 g

So that the solubility in 50 grams of water is:

= 50/100 x 30

= 15 grams

Percent Error Problems – Find the percent error for each problem below.
Citrus2011 [14]

% error = 3.4 %

Percent error = |accepted value - experimental value|/accepted value × 100%

∴ % error = |355 mL – 343 mL|/355 mL × 100 % = |12|/355 × 100 % = 3.4 %

What are function of lipids
olga2289 [7]
Lipids serve as structural components of cell membranes, function as energy storehouses, and function as important signalling molecules. They include fats, waxes, oils, hormones, and certain components of membranes and function as energy-storage molecules and chemical messengers.

Hope this helped :)

A filament of a light bulb is made from a pure sample of tungsten.
GenaCL600 [577]

Answer:

The correct options are:

1) Pure chemical substance

2) Element.

Explanation:

each of the term is explained below:

1) <u>Mixture: </u> Since tungsten is an element in periodic table thus it is not a mixture.

2) False by definition of mixture.

3) false by definition of mixture.

4) <u>Solution:</u> Tungsten in a filament is in solid form hence solution is incorrect.

5) Since it is given in the question itself that the sample is pure hence option 'E' is correct as chemical substance is a pure substance that has a homogeneous composition and the sample in the question is given as pure.

6) <u>Compound:</u> By definition of compound it is formed by mixing 2 or more elements but since tungsten is an element that occurs independently in nature hence it is not a compound.

7) Tungsten is a element in the periodic table with atomic number 74.
