Crew members attempt to escape from a damaged submarine 141 m below the surface. What force must be applied to a pop-out hatch, w

hich is 1.72 m by 0.859 m, to push it out at that depth? Assume that the density of the ocean water is 1024 kg/m3 and the internal air pressure is at 1.00 atm.

Answer:

20.9 x 10⁵ N

Explanation:

The external air pressure downwards and internal air pressure upwards will cancel out. TH net pressure to be faced will be due to water column of 141 m depth.

Pressure of water = hdg = 141 x 1024 x 9.8 = 14.15 x 10⁵ Pa

Area of hatch = 1.72 x 0.859 = 1.4775 sq m.

Total force required = area x pressure = 14.15 x 10⁵ x 1.4775 = 20.9 x 10⁵ N.

If a metal ball suspended by a rod is at rest, which force is responsible for balancing the force due to gravity?
Viktor [21]

There are different kinds of forces; applied force, force of gravity, friction force, normal force, tension force. We will focus on the common forces, applied force and force of gravity. An applied force is a force that is applied to an object by another object. The force of gravity is the force with which massively large objects such as the earth attracts another object towards itself. All objects of the earth exert a gravity that is directed towards the center of the earth. Therefore, the force of gravity of the earth is equal to the weight of the object.

Which valve installed in a hydraulic system will have the highest pressure setting?
masha68 [24]

ThermalThermal relief valve installed in a Hydraulic system will have the highest pressure setting.

What is the hydraulic system? What are the types of hydraulic systems ?

Hydraulic system function and perform tasks through using a fluid that is pressurized . There are two types of hydraulic systems open loop hydraulic systems and closed loop hydraulic system . In open loop ,when the actuating mechanism is idle ,there will be fluid flow but no pressure.

Closed loop system use an additional pump called charge pump or feed pump.

Thermal relief valve is Designed to protect the pump and operators in circumstances when the pump is running and the discharge outlets have been closed .
