Crew members attempt to escape from a damaged submarine 141 m below the surface.What force must be applied to a pop-out hatch, w

hich is 1.72 m by 0.859 m, to push it out at that depth? Assume that the density of the ocean water is 1024 kg/m3 and the internal air pressure is at 1.00 atm.

Answer:

20.9 x 10⁵ N

Explanation:

The external air pressure downwards and internal air pressure upwards will cancel out. TH net pressure to be faced will be due to water column of 141 m depth.

Pressure of water = hdg = 141 x 1024 x 9.8 = 14.15 x 10⁵ Pa

Area of hatch = 1.72 x 0.859 = 1.4775 sq m.

Total force required = area x pressure = 14.15 x 10⁵ x 1.4775 = 20.9 x 10⁵ N.

irinina [24]

Complete question:

new concrete mix is being designed to provide adequate compressive strength for concrete blocks. The specification for a particular application calls for the blocks to have a mean compressive strength µ greater than 1350 kPa. A sample of 100 blocks is produced and tested. Their mean compressive strength is 1356 kPa and their standard deviation is 70 kP

a) Find the p value.

b) Do you believe it is plausible that the blocks do not meet the specification, or are you convinced that they do? Expain your reasoning.

Answer:

a) p-value= 0.1949

b) It is possible the blocks do not meet the specifications

Explanation:

Given:

n = 100

Sample mean, X' = 1356

Standard deviation, s.d = 70

a) To find p- value.

Null hypothesis:

H0: u ≤ 1350

Alternative hypothesis:

H1 : u > 1350

The test statistic wll be:

z= \frac{X'-u_o}{s.d/ \sqrt{n}}

= \frac{1356-1350}{70/\sqrt{100}}

=0.86

The p value will be:

= P(z>0.86)

= 1-P(z≤0.86)

Using the normal distribution table, we now have:

1 - 0.8051

= 0.1949

P value = 0.1949

b) Since our p-value is 0.1949, we do not reject the null hypothesis, because the p-value, 0.1949, is not small. This means that it is possible the blocks do not meet the specifications.

Compare and contrast the shape and volume of each state of matter
Inessa [10]

Answer:

Solid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume and shape; liquid is the state in which matter adapts to the shape of its container but varies only slightly in volume; and gas is the state in which matter expands to occupy the volume and shape of its container.

Mashcka [7]

a)

• P = F/A

P = pressure = 630 N/m^2

F = force

A = area

F = mg = 0.50 kg x 9.8 m/s^2 = 4.9 N

m= mass

g= gravity

P = F/A

A = F/P

A = 4.9 N / 630 N/m^2 = 7.778 x 10^-3 m^2

b)

• Area of a circle = pi* radius ^2

7.778 x 10^-3 m^2 = pi* radius ^2

√(7.778 x 10^-3 m^2 / pi ) = radius

radius = 0.04976 m

Answers:

a ) 7.778 x 10^-3 m^2

b) 0.04976 m

The motorcycle travels with a constant speed v0 along the path that, for a short distance, takes the form of a sine curve. Deter
Alexandra [31]

Let at any instant of time the speed is vo and the angle made by the bike with the horizontal is given

now we have

component of speed in x direction given as

v_x = v_0cos\theta

component of speed in y direction will be

v_y = v_0sin\theta

now from above two equations we can say that here

\theta = angle with the horizontal at any instant

and since here it is a sine curve so we know that

y = sin(x)

so we have slope of graph

tan\theta = \frac{dy}{dx} = cos(x)
