Calculate the mass, in grams, of 0.245 moles of nickel(11) perchlorate

Chemistry

Ierofanga [76]3 years ago

Answer:

38.7 g

Explanation:

first you find the molar mass of Nickle(II) Perchlorate

Nickle = 58.693 g/mol

Perchlorate is Chlorine and Oxygen combined

Molar mass of chlorine is 35.453 g/mol

Oxygen = 15.999 g/mol but since it has 4 oxygen atoms combined with chlorine you have to multiply 15.999 by 4 which is 63.996 add all the masses together and that gives you 158.142. Since you have moles you multiply the moles by the molar mass which looks like this. 0.245 * 158.142 which equals 38.74479 but with sign figs it is 38.7g as your final answer. Ask me if you are confused about something.

9 grams of hydrogen gas (H2) will SC Johnson need to react in order to make 1 bottle of Windex.

Explanation:

Balance equation for the formation of ammonia from H2 gas.

N2 + 3H2 ⇒ 2 NH_{3}

Given

mass of ammonia in 1 bottle of windex = 51 gram

atomic mass of ammonia 17.01 gram/mole

number of moles = \frac{mass}{atomic mass of 1 mole}

number of moles = \frac{51}{17.01}

                               = 3 moles of ammonia is formed.

in 1 bottle of windex there are 3 moles of ammonia 0r 51 grams of ammonia.

From the equation it can be found that:

3 moles of hydrogen reacted to form 2 moles of ammonia

so, x moles of hydrogen will react to form 3 moles of ammonia.

\frac{2}{3} = \frac{3}{x}

x = 4.5 moles of hydrogen will be required.

to convert moles into gram formula used:

mass = atomic mass x number of moles (atomic mass of H2 is 2grams/mole)

        = 2 x 4.5

        = 9 grams of hydrogen.

What temperature will the water reach when 10.1 g CaO is dropped into a coffee cup containing 157 g H2O at 18.0°C if the followi
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

Final temperature attained by water = 34.6°C

Explanation:

The reaction of CaO and H₂O is an exothermic reaction. The equation of reaction is given below:

CaO + H₂O ----> Ca(OH)₂

The quantity of heat given off, ΔH°rxn = 64.8KJ/mol = 64800J/mol

Number of moles of CaO = mass/molar mass, where molar mass of Ca0 = 56g/mol, mass of CaO = 10.1g

Number of moles of CaO = 10.1g/56g/mol =0.179moles

Quantity of heat given off by 0.179 moles = 64800 *0.179 = 11599.2J/mol

Using the formula, Quantity of heat, q = mass * specific heat capacity * temperature rise.

mass of mixture = (10.1 + 157)g = 167.1g, Initial temperature = 18.0°C

Final temperature(T₂) - Initial temperature(T₁) = Temperature rise

11599.2J/mol = 167.1g * 4.18J/g·°C * ( T₂ - 18.0°C)

11599.2 = 698.478T₂ - 12572.604

11599.2 + 12572.604 = 698.478T₂

698.478T₂ = 24171.804

T₂ = 34.6°C

Therefore, final temperature attained by water = 34.6°C
