The reducing agent is donating electrons and therefore becoming oxidised itself. In this scenario elemental zinc (Zn) is in a reduced state and is oxidised to become Zn2+, in doing so it donates electrons to Fe2+, thereby reducing it to elemental iron (Fe).

The elemental Zinc in solid state is therefore the reducing agent as it reduces Fe2+ to Fe(s).

Lead(II) nitrate is added slowly to a solution that is 0.0800 M in Cl− ions. Calculate the concentration of Pb2+ ions (in mol /
barxatty [35]

Answer:

[Pb^{2+}]=3.9 \times 10^{-2}M

this is the concentration required to initiate precipitation

Explanation:

PbCl_2  ⇄ Pb^{2+}+2Cl^-

Precipitation starts when ionic product is greater than solubility product.

Ip>Ksp

Precipitation starts only when solution is supersaturated because solution become supersaturated then it does not stay in this form and precipitation starts itself only solution become saturated.

This usually happens when two solutions containing separate sources of cation and anion are mixed together and here also we are mixing lead (||)nitrate solution(source of lead(||)) into the Cl- solution.

Ip=[Pb^{2}][2Cl^-]^2=Ksp

Ksp=2.4\times 10^{-4}

lets solubility=S

[Pb^{2+}] = S

[Cl^-]=2S

Ksp=[Pb^{2+}]\times [Cl^-]^2

Ksp=S \times (2S)^2

Ksp=4S^3

S=\sqrt[3]{\frac{Ksp}{4} }

S=3.9\times 10^{-2}

[Pb^{2+}]=3.9 \times 10^{-2}M this is the concentration required to initiate precipitation

When 3-iodo-3-ethylpentane is heated in methanol, the major organic product is an __________________ that is generated through a
katovenus [111]

Answer:

Ether

SN1 mechanism

Explanation:

The nucleophile in this reaction is CH3OH. It is a poor nucleopile. We already know that a poor nucleophile reacting with a tertiary alkyl halide often leads to the substitution product as the major product.

Also, the iodide ion is a good leaving group. This makes the SN1 substitution more likely yielding the ether as the major product as shown in the image attached.

A marble is L 1.32 W 1.32 H 1.32, what is the volume? Show your work
cupoosta [38]

The volume of the marble is 2.3 cube units.

From the question given above, the following data were obtained:

  • Length (L) = 1.32
  • Width (W) = 1.32
  • Height (H) = 1.32
  • Volume (V) =?

The volume of the marble can be obtained as follow:

V = L × W × H

V = 1.32 × 1.32 × 1.32

V = 2.3 cube units

Thus, the volume of the marble is 2.3 cube units.

Why do valence electrons form bonds to create molecules and compounds?
Ksju [112]

Valence electrons form bonds to create molecules and compounds because A. they are weaker than the electrons found closer to the nucleus.

A better way of saying it is that the valence electrons are <em>less strongly attracted</em> to the nucleus.

All electrons have the same size, but the <em>orbitals</em> they occupy have different sizes.
