A helicopter, which starts directly above you, lands at a point that is 4.50 km from your present location and in a direction th

at is 25° north of east. You want to meet the helicopter at it's landing site, however, you must travel along streets that are oriented either east-west or north-south. What is the minimum distance you must travel to reach the helicopter?

Answer:

5.98 km

Explanation:

This question can be easily solved by using the trigonometric properties of a right angled triangle.

See attachment for pictorial explanation

To get x we have

Sinθ = opp / hyp

Sin25 = x / 4.5

x = 4.5 sin 25

x = 4.5 * 0.423

x = 1.9 km

To get y, we have

Cosθ = adj / hyp

Cos25 = y / 4.5

y = 4.5 cos 25

y = 4.5 * 0.906

y = 4.08 km

x + y = 1.9 + 4.09 = 5.98 km

Thus, the minimum distance required is 5.98 km

What is the relationship between force and motion described by Newton's first law
prisoha [69]
Newtons First Law of Motion:
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Therefore, the relationship between force and motion is that it takes force to change the speed or direction of any object in motion.

A 3kg book falls from a 2m tall bookshelf what is the speed

PICTURE included
mafiozo [28]

Answer:

39.2m/s

Explanation:

The potential energy the book has right before it falls is equal to the kinetic energy in falling.

PE = KE

mgh = (1/2)mv

2gh=v

v=(2)(9.81)(2)

v=39.24m/s

The energy efficiency of a car is approximately 20%. If you put 10 gallons of gas into the car, how many gallons are “wasted”?
podryga [215]
First, you find what 20% of 10 gallons of gas would be. This will show how many gallons the car actually uses.
10 gallons x 20% =
10 x 0.20 =
2 gallons used

Then you subtract that number from the total 10 gallons to get how many gallons of gas would be wasted.
10 gallons - 2 gallons =
8 gallons of gas wasted

The sine of the incident angle is 0.217; the sine of the refracted angle is 0.173. calculate the index of refraction.
notka56 [123]
This can be solve using snell's law. snell's law equation is :

N1 / N2 = sin a2 / sin a1
where N1 is the index of refraction of the air which is equal to 1
N2 is the index of refraction of the medium
a2 is the angle of refraction
a1 is the incident angle

subsitute the given values
1 / N2 = 0.173 / 0.217
N2 = 1 ( 0.217 / 0.173)
N2 = 1.25 is the index of refraction
